Siri thinks I am my mom...

... But only for phone calls, not iMessage. A few months ago, Siri started getting confused when i tell her to call my mom. She calls my number (which puts me in the Verizon mailbox). If I tell her to send my mom a text message, she successfully sends my mom a message. No confusion. If I ask her who my mom is, or to get her address or phone number, she accesses the correct contact card. She just can't call her unless I use her name. It's a weird little bug. Any thoughts on what to check? I've deleted my contact and put it back on and that didn't help.

Random suggestions:

Sign out of whatever account your contacts are stored in then sign back in again. Or, if it's iCloud, turn contact syncing off then turn it back on again.

Reset your network settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Probably won't help but the only thing it will do that could be annoying is delete saved WiFi passwords and it doesn't take long.

Delete Siri's history. Settings>Siri & Search>Siri & Dictation History>Delete Siri & Dictation History

Nuclear options: Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset All Settings. I hate doing that one. Or back up your phone then restore it from the backup.

Just for kicks, what happens if, instead of labeling her "mother", you label her "father". Does it work? Do any relationships work properly?

Hello beckibyk,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with Siri calling your mom, but contacts her in other ways correctly. Which exact version of iOS 14 are you updated to under Settings > General > About? Does restarting resolve the issue? How exactly are you asking Siri to call? Are you asking Siri to "Call mom" or "Call my mom"? Is her contact listed by her first and last name, or is her contact name Mom?

Cheers!

Up until a week ago, I was sharing apple ID with the iPad which the kids used and an iPhone which the kids used...but the contacts were shared between devices. We checked both devices and I do not see anywhere that I am labeled as mom. The old iPhone doesn't even have an apple ID on it (I signed out) AND I deleted all of the contacts, so it doesn't have a contact on it either.

So unless you can tell me somewhere else specific to look?

So, in this order:

I deleted BOTH my contact and my mom's contact from all 3 synced devices - iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air.

I deleted Siri history.

I turned contact syncing off and on in iCloud.

I turned off my phone and turned it back on.

Before I even added my contact and my mom's contact back into my phone (i.e. my name isn't even in my list of contacts), I said "Hey Siri call mom" and it dialed my phone number.

Nothing has worked!!! What a weird mystery!!

I have my father set up and that relationship works fine.

It's like somehow she associates me with mom (maybe my kids called me mom from the iPad before?) and can't forget that.

I didn't reset all network settings or all settings as I really don't want to go through the work that will create.

My mom has a nickname...I've decided to add that to her contact and say "call 'nickname'" instead.

If only I knew where her memory that I am mom was!!

Thanks for trying to help. Let me know if you have any more ideas.
