How to choose Mac's power source as the connected power adapter only, but not using the batteries? "To save the batteries' life span"

My question is as simple as the title says.

  • keep the MacBook connected to the power adapter
  • and let it ignore the battery charging whatever the batteries' status
  • want to get the necessary power only from the connected power adapter to avoid the usage of the batteries

any possible way?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.5

When plugged in the computer uses that power source. Let the computer manage the battery. You can leave the computer plugged in whenever you want to. Neither the battery nor the computer will be damaged by leaving it plugged in.

mcxmc:

Another missing point:

The older portable mac's processor speeds, when battery is absent, would be

dropped to much lower; so then the overall CPU/GPU also runs much slower.

This also happened back in the PPC iBook/PowerBook days; & early Intel-macs.

Just as well the battery factor, cannot be manually changed; esp w/ newer Macs.

The configuration in newest portable Macs requires there to be more power on

call, & tries to do more with much less; due in part to 'changed design' thinking.

With serious usage, and portable used as desktop replacement: run it plugged-in.

Thanks, Bob.

However, I'm afraid your answer is slightly out of my point. What I tried to mean is not about any possible damage that can be caused by the power adapter nor the machine's charging process.

Instead, I wanted to know how I may choose not to let the machine charge the batteries while it's connected and sourcing the necessary power from the power adapter.

Again, is there any possible way to get the power not thru the batteries but directly from the power adapter only when the machine is plugged? For example, I have an old MacBook Pro which is able to physically detach the batteries and the machine will still work if it's connected to the power adapter. And now new Macs(2017 and later) are not available to do the same anymore since their batteries are not physically detachable.

Do you see the point? And I hope so ;)

Thought that if the machine still is fully functioning without any help of battery power as long as it's plugged in, it'd result saving battery's life span significantly. I feel it just a waste if the batteries still need to be consumed even when the machine could use the power from the adater. The battery's ever increasing cycle count and its capacity getting less even my mac mostly stay at home plugged in is sad. As like seeing my lovely pet gets older while it's not really a living thing.
