When I share my screen through social media which I do often while working, my computer will simply crash.

I have a peripheral Monitor connected to the device.

Screen Sharing opens with random (often small) screen resolution (previously issue #2414437) Screen sharing from a MacBook Pro Retina to an old Mac Mini. Sometimes the window opens to almost the size of the MacBook screen, but most of the time it opens to a window whose size is about half-height and one-third-width. This window cannot be resized larger than it opens at, and the shared screen can be very small (e.g. almost unreadable). This has been the case since at least OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and is still true in macOS 11.4 (Big Sur). Here is the workaround: when this happens, in the Shared Screen, open System Preferences -> Displays. For Resolution, choose "Scaled" instead of "Default", then choose an appropriate screen size (it seems to default to 800x600), e.g. 1280x960. The contents of the screen will resize, and you will be able to resize the window. NOTE: Be sure to confirm the resolution change in System Preferences, or it will revert after a few seconds.

Screen sharing - stuck in full size We have a MacBook Air running High Sierra 10.13.6 on which I've been successfully, for months, sharing the screen of another Mac, that is using an external 1920x1200 monitor, to the MacBook Air. In order to be able to see the entire desktop of the Mac with the big monitor in the window on the MacBook Air, I choose "Scale to fit available space". Last night, that preference suddenly stopped working on the laptop, even though I did not turn off scale to fit available space. It just happened spontaneously. In other words, to see the screen of the other Mac, I had to scroll side to side and up and down. And toggling back and forth between Show full size and Scale to fit available space made absolutely no difference. It is permanently set on Full size. First of all, is this more likely some sort of an issue with the computer that is sharing its screen, or the laptop that is viewing the screen? I have not (yet) tried some of the usual troubleshooting approaches - trying it in Safe Boot, or seeing what happens with a new temporary user. If I were to find out the problem lies with original user's profile, does anybody know the name of the preferences file for Mac OS screen sharing. Thanks for looking,

Screen Sharing (double rectangle) icon in the menu bar appears for a split second and then disappears. The Screen Sharing (double rectangle) icon on the menu bar appears for a split second and then it disappears. This happens roughly every minute. I can not click on it to access options or to see if there is another computer connected. Screen Sharing is turned on by choice- I use it to access my screen from my home computer from time to time. I have not installed nor am I using any third party screen sharing app to share my screen, just the Screen Sharing preference that is in MacOS. The odd behavior stops when I turn off Screen Sharing. Could malware be causing this or is there another computer watching my screen? Should I be concerned or is this just a glitch?

It sounds like your Mac is unexpectedly shutting down and restarting when using an external monitor and sharing your screen with multiple applications. We'd like to help.
