Unable to create a new contact in Big Sur 11.5.2

When I try to create a new contact in Contacts, the entry screen disappears after the first word to be replaced by a random existing card. There is no trace of the new card I started. This is a new MacbookAir with the new chip and OS.

There was a similar question string earlier in the year, with apparently no satisfactory answer.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.5

Suggestion - restart the computer in Safe Mode . It will perform a Disk Repair, clear system cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. It will load slowly - normal. Once Logged in - Test the creation of a New Contact.

If the same issue is not presented - there might be some third party software interfering with the normal operation of the OS.
