Thunderbolt 2 drives

I have a 15” mid 2015 macbook pro. Is there anyway to connect an external 2tB SSD to the Thunderbolt 2 ports?

All I find are cables to the much slower USB-A connector. My research finds that Thunderbolt 2 may not be powered, but so why not tap the power from the USB-A port and still use the faster Thunderbolt 2 with a Y connector feeding the USB-C connector on the drive?

four conductors. somewhat slow.

nine conductors, requires special USB-3 cables, everyone (except Apple) uses a blue insert to tell you it is USB-3.

Faster than Hard drive speeds.
