What does DCP watchdog violation mean?

Installed Windows with Bootcamp. It was successful, until this message came:

What does it mean or what have I done?

I did EXACTLY that – except that SMC thing, my computer has no T2.

Connections: internet, an Ex-FAT empty 16 GB USB. Bootcamp pointed to "Win10_21H1_Swedish_x64.iso", which I had on my hard disk.

When finished, Mac restarted – not Windows. And now: The Windows 100 GB partition was totally empty. But the Ex-FAT contained 8,71 GB Windows.

According to my Swedish Apple manual, a Windows installator should have opened automatically. It didn't, and I don't know where it is.

Now I will be away for some 14 hours.

Hello!

Catalina 10.15.7. I am every day suggested to install Big Sur, but I am not interested, since what I have is something that works.

More: I have a bootable Sierra, since I long ago bought a package of advanced programs, which I updated until they made it unusable – unless I began yearly hiring this package… Therefore I made this USB, since there is something in the package that I regularly use and have good use for.

Now, the situation today is:

One SSD (1 TB) with my system and documents on in one main partition.

One empty partition Bootcamp (100 GB)

One 16 GB USB Wininstall

So far nothing new. Bur I started Bootcamp assistant and opened in the menu "Fetch Windows support app" and fetched that. (But I have the feeling that Bootcamp already had done that automatically.) And let Bootcamp install that app. Gut still, wasn't that already done?

No automatic restart came.

What can I do now?

All seems so familiar, therefore this question.

My setup of devices:
•This hard disk (SSD)
On this disk Win10_21H1_Swedish_x64.iso
dito WindowsSupport folder

This should be fine.

•Wininstall, ExFAT 16 GB USB – now containing Windows 10
Should I first erase it?

No. It was created when you used the following two options.

– Create an installation disk för Windows 10 or later
– Fetch the latest Windows support app from Apple

Your Ethernet connection should be fine.

•Ethernet connection

This administrator thing still bothers me. Can I tamper with this?

Apart from that I will follow your suggestions:

let Bootcamp erase Windows 10,

then back to Bootcamp and let it create an installation drive for Windows 10 somewhere

and let Bootcamp fetch the latest WindowSupport from Apple

Should that be it? Will I go through the partition process again? Will Windows 10 end up in this partition?

I will wait til late with this, so as I can use my computer for other things a while. If there is something more I should know, there is time to tell me.

By the way – I am very grateful for your assistance.

Oooh… Will this never end?

•DID remove Windows that way

•DID reset SMC, NVRAM I did yesterday

•DID connect my USB Wininstall

•DID run BC Assistant and chose only the third option, the install – but it said it would erase Windows 10

It did. Finished with an empty Bootcamp partition.

•DID try to install Windows. But how? Only BC Assistant can do that, I gather.

Restarted Bootcamp and the three options were as before: the third option said "erase Windows 10". Quit the assistant instead.

Noted, that the Bootcamp was empty and the Wininstaller was not on the desktop. Opened Disk Utilities, and it saw Wininstall there, but it couldn't be made visible. So I wondered if that was why BC Assistant didn't install.

Pulled out the invisible USB and reinforced it. Now it was visible and called Wininstall.

Restarted BC Assistant and chose the third option, which still said "erase Windows". That is what it is doing now. Bootcamp is still empty. One minute to go, it said half an hour ago.

Now the Assistant has done all. It says "Install this Windows Support when you have installed Windows". But that is what I just tried to do. Now I have restarted BC A and everything is like before. The Windows partition is empty, the Wininstaller USB is not visible but exists, according to Disk Utilities. With 8,59 GB in it.

This is a nightmare. Good night!

Strange thing: Disk Utilities shows a disk file (what is the namn of that sort?) called CCCOMA_X64FRE_SV-SE_DV9, format UDF. Should be visible but isn't. What is it?

When you remove Windows, it should be gone and the Erase/Remove should change to Install option.

•DID try to install Windows. But how? Only BC Assistant can do that, I gather.

The Install option will ask you for a partition size, create the partition and then start the W10 installer. See Install Windows on your older Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support for reference.

Restarted Bootcamp and the three options were as before: the third option said "erase Windows 10". Quit the assistant instead.

The Erase option should switch to Install option, once Windows has been removed successfully.

Noted, that the Bootcamp was empty and the Wininstaller was not on the desktop. Opened Disk Utilities, and it saw Wininstall there, but it couldn't be made visible. So I wondered if that was why BC Assistant didn't install.

The Aura X2 can be problematic. There are significant issues because of the drivers used for installing Windows.

Pulled out the invisible USB and reinforced it. Now it was visible and called Wininstall.

If it was ejected, then when you re-connected, it was mounted again.

Restarted BC Assistant and chose the third option, which still said "erase Windows". That is what it is doing now. Bootcamp is still empty. One minute to go, it said half an hour ago.

If the Bootcamp/Windows partition is empty, then the Windows installer failed.

The message indicates that you can manually install drivers, once Windows installation is complete, and the Mac's Apple hardware is not working properly.

This is a nightmare. Good night!

We can take a look in the morning when you are available.

Strange thing: Disk Utilities shows a disk file (what is the namn of that sort?) called CCCOMA_X64FRE_SV-SE_DV9, format UDF. Should be visible but isn't. What is it?

It is the Windows ISO disk image.

Morning!

  1. I looked at the Bootcamp instructions "Steg 3: Installera Windows". It says "Follow the instructions on the Windows installer screen".

I often read about the Windows installer. As far as I have seen, the only thing with that namne is a Windows file (which I don't find now). Is there a separate mac application called Windows Installer, or does it refer to the third action in Bootcamp?

Sep 14, 2021 5:59 AM in response to Giron-Kiruna__

The Install option boots the Windows installer from the USB. The first screen should show you a list of partitions and ask you to format. Newer macOS versions automatically format the Bootcamp partition and start installing Windows. What is teh current version of macOS on your Mac?

Can you post a screen shot of what you see when the Installer starts? There is no separate application on macOS side.

Sep 14, 2021 7:48 AM in response to Loner T

I don't think so, but I can try again. But which Windows 10 will it erase? There is only one, the one on the USB. That spooky CCCOMA_X64FRE_SV-SE_DV9 is gone.

Talking of the USB. It was installed on my ExFAT USB 16 GB. I had til now another, Fat32, Wininstall since the first time I installed Bootcamp years ago. I had thought it should be spared, therefore I still have it. If I insert it, it looks like the new USB Wininstall but perhaps without upgrades during the years.

Shall I prefer one of them?
