Apple USB A Camera Adapter Suddenly Doesn’t Work

Either my USB A camera adapter stopped working, or iOS suddenly stopped supporting it. I was able to move Sony ARW (RAW) picture files from my Sony A7riV to my iPad Pro 12.9 (2nd Gen) fine in July 2021, and then when I attempted again this week, on vacation, it now tells me the device requires too much power. It was never powered before and worked fine. The adapter still works fine for an older, smaller camera (tested today) so I know the adapter works, still. Was there an OS update that would suddenly stop functionality or support for the device?

It's certainly odd the same accessory stopped working. Has the firmware on your camera been updated since noticing this issue? If you're unsure, we recommend starting with the troubleshooting steps below from the article here: Use Apple USB-A camera adaptors with USB-A devices

"Get help

If you can't connect a supported device, try these steps:

Disconnect the Apple USB Camera Adaptor from your iOS device.
Disconnect any devices connected to the Apple USB Camera Adaptor.
Restart your iOS device.
Plug in the Apple USB Camera Adaptor and try to connect the USB device again."

We'd also recommend testing with a different USB-A Adaptor adapter. You can also check the adapter for any possible damage that may cause the alert to show. Additionally, you may want to test with a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adaptor to be sure.
