Password required for app updates on child’s account

My children under 13 have iPhones and they love to download apps. And I enjoy having the ability to review the apps before they download them but I got really tired of how many times I need to enter AppleID passwords to download a single game. It’s three times on my children’s phones of their own password and once on my phone with my password. So I decided to turn off the “ask to buy” feature. Now it is just that my children have to enter their password twice. But if they want to update an app they need to enter their password for every app that they want to update.

Is there anyway to decrease the number of times a password is needed?

I would really like to turn the “ask to buy” feature back on.

They do not use TouchID on their phones, ask to buy is currently off.

I can not turn off “require password” for free downloads and I cannot set the phone to wait 15 minutes to ask for the password again when downloading purchases. When I try to change those settings I get a message that say “you will be asked for a password for all downloads and purchases until you are over 13.”

Hello Kyrum21,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, when updating apps, the App Store requires you to enter the password multiple times. You'd like to remove this, so it's easier to update apps.

The 'Ask to Buy' feature is there so children don't purchase things without a parent's permission. When you disabled this, it defaults back to the child restrictions under their Apple ID. Which is why you see the messages in the screenshot. There isn't a way to stop these messages unless you enable the 'Ask to Buy' feature once again: Approve what kids buy with Ask to Buy

It might be best to leave Apple with some feedback about your experience. If you wish to do this, provide that feedback using: Product Feedback

However, the restrictions for ages 13 or younger, are there for reasons. To avoid making multiple and likely unwanted purchases.

Wishing you the best, take care.
