Hey there 1brogers,
We see you're trying to manage the iPad storage. In particular, you're trying to view attachments within Messages but you're having difficulties with doing so. We'd like to see how we can help.
It sounds like you're navigating to Settings > General > iPad Storage > Messages. Typically when there, you should see 'Auto Delete Old Conversations' and 'Review Large Attachments'. While in there, you should also see the 'Documents' section at the bottom. If you do see that, you can tap on Photos, Videos, GIFs and Stickers, or Other, to review the content. From there, you can narrow down which ones are taking up the most storage and tap Edit, select the circle next to the content and tap the Delete icon.
How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
