Auto connect airpods and apple watch

I'll be listening to one of my music apps and if a notification comes through on my watch, my airpods pros disconnect from my iPhone 11. I have to manually connect airpods before pressing play. Is there a way to stop the auto notification connect to apple watch?

Hello DSTRBDWORX,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you'd like not to switch AirPods between iPhone and other devices. Is that correct?

This is a feature that is enabled by default. Take a look at the iPhone User Guide here that quotes, "To stop AirPods from automatically switching between devices, go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap  next to the name of your AirPods, tap Connect to This iPhone, then tap When Last Connected to This iPhone."

That should help. Let us know if you have any questions.

Best wishes!

Thank you for clarifying the situation for us. We'll run through some initial troubleshooting you may have tried already. Let's be sure your devices are up-to-date. Here is how to check:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Update your Apple Watch

If, after ensuring that both devices are up-to-date and, the issue continues, we suggest unpairing your Apple Watch to set it up again. See Unpair and erase your Apple Watch You can be sure that erasing all content and settings on Apple Watch creates a new backup first. You can then choose to set up as new or restore from this backup when you pair again.

We trust this will set us on the path to resolution. If you're still having issues after completing these steps, contact Apple Support for additional in-depth troubleshooting: Contact Apple Support

Have a good day.

No this is not correct. I would like my airpods to stop automatically connecting to my Apple watch Everytime there is a notification. I know what defaults are in place. This is not one that is covered anywhere and is quite irritating. Once again, I want to stop airpods from automatically disconnecting from iPhone and connecting to apple watch when a notification appears on Apple watch.
