"The Apple TV update couldn't be downloaded at this time" persistent error message

After a few months of inactivity, turned on Apple TV, but no longer connects to wifi... Apple TV recognizes wifi network (has a wifi address but no other network info). On selection of wifi network, immediately gives "There was a problem connecting to the network. The wifi password you entered is incorrect. Try again (-100)" with no chance to affirm or change password. Tried updating Apple TV software but got above error msg, have restarted cable modem, wifi router, Apple TV multiple times...

Check for interference.
Try wired ethernet.
Try connecting to a different network (e.g. at friends or family) to see if that makes a difference. That should tell you if it is the device or the network.
If the issue persists, contact Apple to see if you can bring it in for inspection.

What is your model Apple TV? Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

An internet connection is essential for signing in, and for getting updates. You will have to get the connection working first. If your Apple TV can't connect to Wi-Fi - Apple Support

If the IP address is 169.254.x.x, then the Apple TV was unable to get an IP address from the DHCP functionality of the router, and made one up as coping mechanism. 169.254.x.x is not connectable though. Then the issue is in the home network, not the Apple TV device.

Just upgraded to Apple TV 4k, used iPhone to set up without any issues... I suppose it was a hardware or software update problem after all...

Ty... I have a 3rd gen Apple TV... Under General/Settings, only a wifi address is displayed (not an IP address, and no other network info--the fields are marked N/A)... I have multiple Apple devices connected to the network, all functioning normally...
