Battery drain while sleeping

My M1 MacBook Air is still draining battery in sleep mode.

I did everything this user chrisia777 suggested here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252061187?answerId=254447737022&page=3

but not much changed.

Any ideas?

You imported a large number of old extensions when you migrated from your previous mac.

This was a bad idea.

If you had opted to migrate just the user accounts and not the other stuff, you'd start off with a nice system and leave all the old cruft behind.

I can't say which in particular are causing trouble, but extensions built for 10.9 or even 10.6 (in intel macs) are likely to not work without issues in Big Sur on an M1 mac.

You have Startup Items, which have been discouraged and deprecated for a looong time.

I strongly advise that you make sure to have updated Time Machine drive, then erase and install a clean system, and finally migrate ONLY the user accounts (not applications, settings or other files).

Ok, I get it. Just one noob question, please. What is the point in having a time machine back if then I migrate only the user account and cannot have my apps and data back?

thank you very much though.

Hi,

We understand you're experiencing an issue with the battery life on your Mac. We would recommend the guidance in the following article that may help, including checking settings such as "Turn off “Enable Power Nap while on battery power”. This setting prevents your Mac from checking for mail or other iCloud updates during sleep which improves standby time.":

Get help with your Mac notebook battery

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

It seems that things are getting great.

In intel macs, there is a setting called "Power Nap" that one can disable. I don't have an M1 mac to check, but I recall someone saying that this is not a thing in the new macs. Just in case, you may want to check the settings in System Preferences->Battery. Not that 3% is a very bad thing, but just to check all the possibilities.

OK, first big unexpected improvement since reinstalling all: the MacBook Air now boots WAY faster than before! it is a much appreciated surprise of course, and it demonstrates that there was actually something wrong.

As per battery consumption: tonight It drained 3 percent, from 57 to 54. Does it sound acceptable to you? I can see it still had a lot of wakeups though.
