Documentation on how to turn off sleep on my iMac fails using Energy Saver configuration. Is there a way to keep my iMac from going to sleep while I am making a huge download or upload? I've tried using caffeinate, but no success there either. Also, Apple advice on previous call did not work either.

After further investigation, this method does not work. Using the System Preferences > Energy Saver does not prevent the computer from going to sleep during a long job.
Using amphetamine from the app store works very well.

Couldn’t see the screenshots.
Don’t need the SN but the year of the iMac. Click on the Apple logo and select About.
Uncheck Put & Wake, and see if that fixes it.
Be aware: iMac display switching off on timer is not the same as the iMac sleeping.

I believe that Mac os x has an issue with their settings in System Preferences
The app you recommend works around the problem.

Energy Preferences > Check “Prevent…”.
Keep the setting permanent, Sleep is all pain, negligible gain.
That is the problem hcsitas, the "Prevent..." simply fails to keep my computer from going to sleep.
Details please. What model iMac? OS version? Could you post a snapshot of your Energy Preferences?
