Cannot add AZ drivers license to wallet

Has anyone been able to successfully add their driver's license in IOS15? I did the install today, live in AZ, double checked my info in in the apple store and Apple ID to make sure it was my AZ info but no luck. Opened the wallet, hit the plus sign in the upper right but only got options for apply for Apple Card, debit/credit card and transit card. Am I missing a step or setting I need to change?

Thanks

The feature is not yet available to anyone in any state on iPhone. It is coming in a future update. And it will only be supported IF your state opts in to allowing your Drivers License to be stored in Apple Wallet.

it Has been stated AZ has its own app. The

police can scan that app and you don’t have to have the physical ID. I use another app that I stored my ID and VA card on. Some places still require a physical ID but a lot do not. I do not leave my own area in my own state a lot. At some point the digital age is going to make physical ID and money a thing of the past….

Why would you want to have your driver’s license in your Wallet app at this time? You still need to have the actual license in your possession, because not all AZ law enforcement officers have the devices yet to verify the license image, and also because police in other states (and I assume you sometimes leave Arizona) won't be able to use the electronic license. I’ve been researching this because my state will be implementing it, and they point out that even after it is available you will still need to have your physical license for the reasons I have given.

Perhaps in a few years when all or most states implement electronic licenses it might be useful, but not now.

Because literally 2 weeks ago, I dropped my license while pulling a dog poop bag from my pocket while on a run with my dog. I did not realize I had lost it until I was home and undressing and went to pull the license out of my pocket. I immediately ordered one online (after going back to the park and diligently searching for it), but it still took 10 days to get to me. Which meant I was driving without any license or form of ID for 10 days. That's when I discovered my state has their own mobile ID app.

So yea, I would have felt much more comfortable had I had a digital copy of the license on my phone those 10 days.

And no, I haven't left AZ since the pandemic began, although I hope to do so next year. And yes, I will carry both the physical and the digital IDs with me. Accidents happen. I have been robbed before and was without a license and therefore ID for about the same 10 days when that happened, too, but that was back in the days of flip phones.

That is why I am eager to have both.

I am using the AZ DMV as an alternative until the Apple Wallet app works. I expect when it does you will just take a photo of both sides of your license. You will not need the 2nd app.

The AZ app does a facial scan and compared it to the AZ DMV license and once a match is accepted they post the license image and it includes a link to verify in real time the license is still valid, a good feature when going through security checks.
