iPasOS 15.0 AND Safari Sidebar/bookmark sidebar

I updated to iPadOs today. In Safari I have to drill down to get to the bookmark menu from the Safari sidebar. Once I select the bookmark I want I can’t close the sidebar unless I go back to the Safari sidebar. First how do I hide the bookmark sidebar without going all the back to the Safari sidebar? Also how do I make sure the bookmark sidebar opens as default when opening Safari? Right now when I open Safari it is opening at the Safari sidebar.

iPadOS15 has made fundamental changes to App UI, the Sidebar - and associated controls. Many of the controls present in iPadOS14 Safari have been modified - and in many cases removed.

The “simplification” has removed some of the previous flexibility. For example, where before a simple single-touch would reveal the Sidebar in one of the three chosen views (Reading List, Favourites/Bookmarks or History) - and a further single touch would again hide the Sidebar whilst remembering the selected view - this is no longer the case. The previous single touch now requires multiple touches - and the reverse to hide the Sidebar from view; after closing the sidebar, the preferred view is not remembered

I really cannot understand how the UX designers and engineers think the new implementation is a better way?!?!?!

Hi,

for me it ´s the same.

A verey, very annoying „feature“. it is simply not possible to close the sidebar when you have navigated to an entry below the upmost level.

The button simply vanishes and to access a bookmark in the second subfolder i have to navigate to its location and then - in order to hide the sidebar again - i have to navigate all way back.

That´s simply ridiculous.

I didn ´t find any solution to this problem. Seems that somebody slept very well during the last few months as this error is really very obvious

I ´ve already reported it and some other changes to the feedback page.
