Google maps while using CarPlay freezes after 15 minutes.

google search engine app and map app freezing up or slowing down, sometimes crashing For a while now the google search engine app on the iphone has been freezing up. Takes forever to type something in (I find speach to txting it in works better) because there's like a 15 second freeze between letters, can't scroll down ... keeps freezing up, and if I do manage to get the a web page that addresses whatever I'm trying to find at that moment, that web page also won't allow me to scroll down... and sometimes the app just crashes. Similar stuff is happening over at the google map app, trying to type in a location and get directions, or pull up the web page or phone number for a business that way... None of this happens if I use google via a browser app such as chrome or firefox, just for the stand alone apps ... I have reinstalled the apps no good ... I have have returned to factory settings and JUST installed the two apps (the google search engine and map apps) and they worked fine... but then when I did a full install with all my settings and apps, it froze up again. Nothing else is running at the same time and I do not have a VPN

Maps crashing Hello, When using maps (google maps, Apple Maps and Waze) on my iPhone12Max it will initially accept the journey then slowly as the car travels the map gets further behind, sometimes up to 5 seconds. If I stay on the map it eventually crashes or if I unplug the phone it’s freezes Apple Maps and makes the cars infotainment system useless including BlueTooth additional information. I’m driving a 2018 Range Rover Velar. I’ve deleted all maps and re-added all software is up to date including the car manufactures software it’s been happening for 2+yrs it does not happen on my wife’s phone please help 🤞

CarPlay issues-Alpine Apple Carplay gets laggy, eventually disconnects with error My Apple CarPlay gets laggy after some time while connected to the car. Touch inputs will take 5-10 seconds to be recognized and maps will stop updating the view. Eventually it will disconnect with an error "Unfortunately, com.ds.connectivity has stopped". When I notice the lag, toggling back to Alpine then back to CarPlay will get it to work again. I believe it has something to do with the maps, either Google or Apple, because if I leave an audio app on the screen it doesn't seem to happen. Any suggestions? I've tried power cycling everything, resetting carplay settings in both the Alpine and iPhone, updating firmware for the Alpine and IOS on my phone. Next step is to remove Google Maps and see what happens. Funny part is it only happens with the Alpine ILX407 in my Subaru, not the W650 in my pickup. Thanks!

Hello Betuca,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that the Google Maps app is freezing when your iPhone is connected to CarPlay.

Does Google Maps freeze on your iPhone when not connected to CarPlay? Do any other apps freeze or stop working when you are connected to CarPlay?

Try the steps from If you need help with CarPlay which will resolve most CarPlay issues.

That could certainly be the case. Updating CarPlay will vary by car model. As mentioned in How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car, you may be able to find that in your car's user manual. If not, your car manufacturer can assist further.

thank you for your response. Google maps, Apple Maps and Waze freeze after few minutes and CarPlay becomes sluggish. I am wondering if I need to upgrade CarPlay. But, I have no idea how to do it. Thanks!
