Speeding Up the Upload of photos that I have imported into PHOTOS on my Mac.

Every now and then I notice... it takes forever to upload a photo. I understand when I have 200+ photos. But I notice sometimes, just a few photos... and sits there. 30,000+ photos in the cloud. I dropped one into PHOTOS about 10 mins ago and I still notice it says "Uploading 1 Item PAUSE." If the photo was 10MB or maybe 1MB, but this photo is 328KB. I even clicked on Pause for a moment and then clicked on Resume to see if maybe it was just a fluke. But no, it just sits there. Close Photos and open it back up - no change... even went into the deleted photos and cleared them out, as well - no change.

I was in a rush, so after 30 mins I just pasted the photo into NOTES and then (within 10 seconds) I opened my NOTES on my iPhone and copied the photo and dropped it in a text.

Looked back on the mac... and still sitting there - ugh. Of course I can go from notes into PHOTOS on my iPhone... but it would be nice if it would just do what it normally does. I have used almost 50% of y storage that I pay for... I have a Gigablast Internet connection... I even just uploaded a 25MB video to verify my upload speed... and then ran a speedtest - says my upload speed is 32mbps. And still the photo just sits there. Would love to know if there is a setting or a command that would just "upload already."

Any thought would be appreciated. I even thought by the time I finished typing this it would probably be uploaded and a mute point. But no, still still there. :)

Thank you,

Joe

Hey Joe,

It appears that it's taking an inordinate long time to upload photos from your Mac. Great job on the troubleshooting steps you've tried, and we're glad to provide assistance.

Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac - Apple Support -- See if a simple restart breaks the dam.

View network activity in Activity Monitor on Mac - Apple Support -- If restarting your Mac didn't resolve the problem, check the Activity Monitor to see if you find anything that could be causing this. You seem to have enough upload speed, but it may be taken up by other internet needs.

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support -- If it still takes too long to upload photos, restart your Mac in safe mode and test the issue with a few of your photos. Once you're finished testing, restart your Mac normally to exit safe mode. Please be aware: "When you start up in safe mode, your Mac prevents some software, such as startup items, from loading, and it performs a check of your startup disk. Your Mac may take longer to start up because of the check."

Let us know how that goes.

All the best.
