How do I disable the removal of Content Blockers when Screen Time is turned on?

Hey guys,

To start, I have a family content blocker on my kids devices along with Screen Time enabled to prevent anyone from editing settings. After downloading iOS 15 though, I noticed that while Extensions can't be edited in Safari while Screen Time is enabled by going to Settings > Safari > General > Extension, I can just turn off Content Blockers going to Settings > Safari > Settings for Websites > Content Blockers. Is there a way I can prevent this so anyone can not just go in and turn off all the protection I have set up? This feature should be blocked if Screen Time is on.

Hi Alicia,

Not that I know of, I was just looking at the settings myself due to the new update. But kids are smart these days...haha. I did try removing the extension but that didn't fix it as I don't believe that is the problem. The extension for all intents and purposes works fine and it is blocked out like I said from the extensions menu. The issue is that there is an unblocked option which can disable content blockers both in the settings as I mentioned and actually also in the Safari app itself by clicking the Text option in search bar and tapping "Turn off Content Blockers". Both of those shouldn't be able to be used if screen time is activated I would think.

Thank you.

Hello, Dan-Trav.

It sounds like you’ve recently updated your family’s iPhone devices to iOS 15, and you’ve noticed some changes in the way Screen Time is managing your parental controls. If we understand correctly, you’ve installed a Safari extension (content blocker) and noticed that they’re able to get into Settings to disable the blocker.

Were they able to disable it before updating to iOS 15? Have you had a chance to try any troubleshooting like removing the extension and downloading it again?

We’re happy to help you research this, and hopefully get you on a path to securing their Apple devices again.

Warmest Regards.
