Battery drain in WatchOS 8 on Apple Watch 6

I installed WatchOS 8 on my Apple Watch Series 6 on Monday night. The battery is draining super quick now. For example in drained 20% while going out to dinner and back over 1.5 hours.

Appreciate the feedback. Took a first step of unpairing and repairing the watch to start. So far seems to have helped. Real test will be overnight and thru the day tomorrow. Typically i charge it before bed and then use til I sit down at night and charge while watching TV prior to bed. Never had an issue in the past with the battery lasting.

Apple is still researching. A meeting yesterday was only used to get more information from my watch for their analyst to study and to check if I had updated to the newest IOS 15.0.1 on the phone. You can be assured this is now documented as a known issue with Apple, and they will solve it. I suspect an OS or workout app patch is needed.

You can try the different things people say work, but there is no doubt the battery drain is caused by something else. After setting up as a new watch or repairing, you will not lose any data from your watch since it is stored in your activity app on your iphone and also because it’s all backed up anyway.

Another Apple meeting is scheduled for Friday.

The Friday meeting resulted in no additional information. The person working my case was only told by his technical counterpart to offer me a one time exception to a new watch of same series. Therefore, we can deduce from this they do not suggest battery replacements for the issue; and whatever it is will not be resolved by any of the measures talked about in this thread. It is likely something complex that will take time to resolve in their OS. I expressed my concern that a new watch of same series 3 will have same problem once it is rebuilt using my iphone data. But, it’s all I have to go on now.

I have the same issue. Here. My series 3 last for around 26-28 hours. After the 7.5 and even on 8 it lasts 12 hours. Tried everything, erase, configure as new, removed apps, etc. It is the same behaviour after 3 weeks. The battery health is 81. Unfortunately this kind of event makes me not wanting to buy ever a new apple watch. The watch has three years. And now It is no longer usable!

I find it funny that the new watch OS update is pretty much for series 3 watches. Will test this update out later today and see if battery life improves. If so, then we’ll know why the update was for only Series 3 watch owners as a lot of us have been complaining to Apple for almost three months about battery life being reduced to half a day.

I was getting this 1% drain every 2 minutes, too. Brand new battery, two weeks old, latest version of software on Watch and iphone X. Verizon. It seems that when I hard reboot the watch, this problem goes away for a few days, but still playing around to learn more. I make sure that no apps are running by quitting everything and turning off cellular and always being next to my Apple phone. Strange bug I guess. I also turned off intelligent charging.

Nice hardware, lousy software?

iPhone XS Max, watch series 4.

Before updated, the watch can use more than 16 hours. After updated, can only use up to 8hours only. Battery management shows the health up to 95%. Everytime pick up the watch after charged, it slowly fall down the percentage (which I feel really wrong on the figures), and up to around 8 hours, the watch SHUT DOWN at 63%!!!!!!! yes, is sudden dead! then I put back to charger, it restart the watch and shows charging at around 60%..... and the charging time only takes around 20mins back to fully charge 100%...... after that I can use another 8 hours, and dead again at 63%........ really really frustrated and this MUST be the OS problem (bug).........

I have try unpair and pair, didn't help. then I erase everything and set up as new watch, problem still.......

feel hopeless ..... and more like Forcing you to buy a new series 7......

a BIG fail to the watchOS update..... big big fail......

really disappointed.....
