Apple 27" iMAC OIS update for Safari now won't play ITV Hub Player.

I have a 2014 - apple 27" iMac running MacOS Catalina version: 10.15.7 and this week updated Apples latest software which was a Safari update.

Now my iMac will load, but will not play the ITV Hub player, it just keeps saying 'Opps there's a problem and to refresh' but that doesn't resolve the problem!

Apple Support logged on to screen share my iMac and checked everything and can't correct this and say it is an ITV issue.

I can play the ITV Hub on all my other Apple devices but not on my 27" iMac...

This is clearly an Apple cause/issue relating to their latest Safari software update and it is really frustrating when working from home and you want to listen to latest topics being discussed in background and now since their update this week on 21st September 2021 I now can't watch ITV this has not been a problem before for the past 18months during lockdown and working from home.

I can still play all the other TV channels such as Sky and Amazon tv programs, so why not ITV ?.

Is anyone else having this issue or has a remedy to resolve this problem.

Not sure why I should need to buy a new iMac to resolve this issue.

Regards Alan (Derby, England, UK).

You can report it here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201232. Apple does not acknowledge or update status of problem reports on this forum. You’ll need to work with their support and see how far it gets. I would report it to Apple and in the meanwhile, use another browser like Chrome or Firefox. Maybe a future MacOS update will fix it…Good luck!

If I can answer the questions you posed in your opening post.

"Is anyone else having this issue or has a remedy to resolve this problem."

  • Yes and a remedy is to use WaterFox, FireFox or another browser which works with the ITV Hub web site.

"Not sure why I should need to buy a new iMac to resolve this issue."

  • No you don't need to buy a new iMac, you can still watch ITV if you want.

As with most software releases I am confident that there will at some stage be an updated version of Safari 15, hopefully Apple will take onboard all the bugs which have been reported to them.

the ITV hub still does not work on my iMac, following the Apple Software update for Safari this week.

Yet it still works in all my other devices including an old iPad Air.

you suggest downloading Sky Go but that is not available in App Store for iMac.

this is clearly an Apple issue and not sure why Apple can’t resolve this and why they are trying to blame ITV????

I can still watch Sky News, Amazon and all the other TV Channels on my iMac so why does the ITV Hub load but then not play now!!!

nothing Apple suggest seems to work I think they don’t know and are just guessing!

If Apple Customer Support cannot resolve this how do they think I can as the end user.

it has worked fine daily for past 2yrs until Apples Safari update this week!

Come on Apple please sort out the problem your recent update has created please.

Kind regards, Alan HINMAN

I'm running an M1 2021 24in iMac with Big Sur with Safari 15 installed

I logged into ITV Hub via my default browser Waterfox and I can watch live streams from ITV.

I logged into ITV Hub via Safari 15 and it fails to stream ITV.

Therefore I agree with your conclusion that Safari 15 is at fault and Apple needs to address this..

I suggest you give Waterfox (or Firefox) a try and you should be able to watch ITV.

There doesn’t seem to be a way of communicating with ITV about this.

Other comments today on the ITV FORUM just say this is an APPLE Safari issue and is nothing to do with ITV.

Also there isn’t an App for iMac for the ITV Hub it is an online web based program. So you can’t delete any App and reinstall it.

There are Apps you the ITV Hub that you do download for iPhones and even my old iPad Air and they all still work and play the ITV Hub.

This is clearly an Apple iMac issue which the recent Safari software download update installed earlier this week has created this problem.

I am NOT aware there was a Safari update for my iPhone12 or for my iPad Pro12 as they are both still working and do allow me to watch the ITV Tv Hub programs live today.

So I ask what is going on and what are Apple doing to resolve this issue.

From reading the replies from other Apple users who also seem to have experienced this same ongoing problem.

They advise they have downloaded other browsers and can now watch the ITV Hub!

But I am not sure why as an Apple customer I should be forced to use another non Apple browser just to watch one widely used Tv program!!!!

I ask what if anything are Apple going to do to resolve this recent new Apple Safari software download created issue.

Hi, not sure who you are to be honest, I’m not getting my knickers in a twist at all and certainly not blaming anyone else for this.

I merely posted an issue following an Apple Safari software update to my iMac earlier this week and Apple Customer Support logged into my iMac remotely and couldn’t not resolve the issue.

I merely asked and put the question out there if anyone else had encountered the same issue and or if anyone had any useful or helpful answers to resolve this.

ITV say it’s an Apple issue and Apple say it’s an ITV issue.

Your comments like, ‘don’t get your knickers in a twist’ are not helpful infact I would say extremely unhelpful and if you haven’t got anything decent to say I’m not sure why you are on this forum as it seems that you are just trolling someone seeking help that others might need too.
