How do I make VLC Player the default player for all my Music ?

I would like to make VLC Player the default App for playing any Music accessible via my Apple Mac Sur device. How can I do that ?

I ask this, since it seems the only way to do so is on a per "song" basis.....

Where are your music files located? Control (right) - click on one music file and select "Get Info" from the contextual menu.

In the Info window go to the Open with section and select VLC as the option to open it with. Then click on the Change All button:

That should do it.

I don't understand what you mean by a "per song basis". Could you explain?

Anyway, all you have to do, if you really want to choose VLC (or any other program for that matter) for some type of file:

In the Finder, select ONE such file (e.g. "a.m4a"), press Command-I to open the Info window.

There under Open With, choose the application you want; then click "Apply to All".

You will have to do this for other types of music files (e.g mp3), but there you go.

I have the latest version of Sur installed.

I have a few of my favorite CD tracks copied over to my NAS that only I can access/listen to via my wireless headphone whilst I workout.

There is seemingly no way to change the "default" player option.

I have tried all options - nothing matches the above suggestions provided.

I simply do not wish to use the default player, as that will inevitably lead to a bombardment of advertisements for "similar" "music" from other "preferred" vendors.... just as happens when you view any other web page involving a purchasing decision... which I'm currently totally fed up with... hence why I wish to isolate my private listening choices.

You start in the Finder.

Select one file. Press Command-I. You will get what Old Toad showed you.

It is pretty much straightforward.

If you are not seeing that then please explain in detail what you are doing, and post screenshots to illustrate.
