No sound when using Apple maps on Ios15
I have updates to iOS 15, and now have no sound (voice directions) when using the app. Checked all the obvious causes, but still nothing.
Was working perfectly up to iOS 14.8

My Fix that worked...on iPhone SE (2nd Gen) and Hyundai Santa Fe
Settings
Maps
scroll down to
Spoken Direction
tap and turn on
Directions on Radio
This appears to work if car bluetooth supports phone sound via car stereo system.

Yep, well after doing some digging around, there are a lot of people with this issue and it is a known problem. Previously you could simply select the device audio source directly from Maps. This functionality is now gone.
Instead, and I just learned this last night. When I want to use Apple Maps with Bluetooth connected to my car, but I want the sound to come from my phone, not the car. I launch Apple Maps and then from the control center (I swipe down from the top right of the phone) then in the top right in the audio box (I think it's called Airplay) I unselect car accessory Bluetooth and select iPhone. Bamm, problem solved. I can now use the car's Bluetooth functionality with my phone and have Apple Map's audio play through my phone.
I am not sure if Apple intentionally did this for the audio options, but if there are other people with this problem, please let them know to just change the audio options from the control center.
Justin 444, After spending over an hour on the phone with an Apple senior advisor, gathering data to send to engineering I tried this and it worked. In my case I have a Honda Accord with HandsFreelink. Following your tip I opened Maps then opened the control center on my iPhone. I found that in the control center AirPlay was defaulted to HandsFreelink and I had the option to select iPhone. Once I did that Maps worked perfectly with the audio now coming thru my iPhone as it did in IOS 14.8.
I don't understand why Apple removed the audio option in maps in IOS 14. The new update is a setback not an improvement. They have confused the advisors at tech support to the point that they can't help. They pretty much say to submit a feedback report and hope it will be addressed in a future update.
I don't know how you figured this out but all I can say is thanks.
I have a 2014 Honda Accord with HandsFreeLink. With IOS 14 Apple Maps app always defaulted to this which I didn't care for and wanted my audio to go thru my iPhone. It was simple to just swipe up from the bottom, choose audio and select my iPhone. Since IOS 15 removed this option my iPhone is now silent. Justin444 found the solution and it works every time. I open maps, swipe down from the top to open control center and click on the airplay icon. By default HandsFreeLink is checked but iPhone is there and I select that. Close the control center and the voice is now coming thru my iPhone.
Finally I have been encouraged by Apple support to leave feedback about this issue. They say that Apple reads them and if they see enough people having this issue the more likely they will address it. Here is the link. Choose Maps.
Try settings/maps/spoken directions then turn off “directions on radio”. That should keep the sound coming thru iphone.
As for the car try this. Go to settings, maps, spoken directions and toggle on directions on radio. I don’t know why but on my iPhone it is toggled off by default.
Check Settings>Maps>Spoken Directions>turn off the switch Directions on Radio. If that does not work, then check with your vehicle manufacturer, they must have another setting for Bluetooth. That has worked on any device I've tried it with.
Found it.
Settings : Maps : Spoken Directions : Directions on Radio "ON"
Go to Settings/Maps/Spoken Directions. Turn off Directions on Radio. The sound will now continuue to play through iphone.
I turned off sound recognition and it fixed the issue
settings > accessibility > sound recognition
Same problem here that happened when I upgraded to iOS 15
iPhone 12 Mini
BMW 2016
No CarPlay
Maps used to have an Audio Output Selector in the previous version. We could select iPhone / Speaker / AirPods / Any other source of BlueTooth. That selector switch disappeared with iOS 15.
Now, I have to wait for the system to connect with the car BlueTooth, then I put on my AirPods, and I get back the Directions Voice Prompts.
How do we get to manually select the Audio Output now, other than this workaround?
I think it is vehicle specific. Hyundai Santa Fe Premium SE 2015
Before iOS update the sound played from the iPhone only.
Following update I could get no sound at all until I discovered Settings/Maps/Spoken Directions.
Now directions/sound comes through the car speakers via bluetooth and interrupts anything already playing.
Personally I find this better as the instructions are clearer and easily heard.
I can appreciate that if navigating an urban area then continual interruptions fromApple Maps could annoy some people though.
I have an Apple Watch and the haptics/sounds from that are a very useful early warning of action to be taken prior to the verbal warning/instruction.
I too have been troubled with the absence of turn by turn direction Bluetooth audio since IOS 15. In my case that occurred simultaneously with my replacement of a Xr with a new 13Pro. It took a bit of research to realize the issue was IOS 15 changes rather than my new hardware. While turn by turn volume is still too low relative to Siri and music apps I was also having issues with Siri not working while a music app ( usually Pandora)was playing and also the audio turn by turn directions being totally absent and replaced by a ding sound. Yesterday I found that by turning off microphone access for Pandora in privacy these two problems were solved. Now for the volume. Still too low and no option to increase it relative to Siri and Music apps. I liked the old way with the loud, normal and low options.
I had the same issue. I had no prompts at all. Finally figured out that I had voice recognition enabled - where your iPhone listens for certain sounds and alerts you. Turned that off and voice prompts came back.
I did download the newer version 15.2.1. Same problem. If I turn off bluetooth it works, but once I turn on bluetooth it doesn't work. I want to keep bluetooth on like I always have for incoming and outgoing calls
I downloaded the google map on my iphone and everything works including the audio for directions. If I ever hear this problem is fixed I will go back to apple maps most likely
