No sound when using Apple maps on Ios15
I have updates to iOS 15, and now have no sound (voice directions) when using the app. Checked all the obvious causes, but still nothing.
Was working perfectly up to iOS 14.8

My Fix that worked...on iPhone SE (2nd Gen) and Hyundai Santa Fe
Settings
Maps
scroll down to
Spoken Direction
tap and turn on
Directions on Radio
This appears to work if car bluetooth supports phone sound via car stereo system.
Updated to iOS 15.1 today, and I reset all my settings. Still nothing. No spoken directions, no blue navigation bar, no directions on the Lock Screen. I've been an Apple fan for a long time, but the decline in polish in software releases over the past few years is starting to get really irritating.
Apple, can we please get a comment on this?
I am very upset that since I installed IOS 15.1, I cannot get a voice in Maps. Previously, I needed to set the voice to come over my phone, not my car speakers and not my hearing aids. Over the phone is the best way for me to manage my hearing loss. But now, I can't hear anything -- there is no voice at all in maps. Previously in Maps, you could tap at the bottom and change the source (phone, car, hearing aids) and volume of the voice in maps. In IOS15, I can't find a way to access any of that. Apple would you please correct this.
I have the same problem after last night’s update. Auido in maps no longer has options. I’m hearing impaired and often use audio through my hearing aids. But I also use my truck Uconnect frequently but this isn’t showing up. I’m in agreement about not to reset my phone and lose everything Please help
Sorry Harvey I have this problem and checked your suggestion and it doesn't work for me. I'm really frustrated with this "upgrade". I so liked Apple maps over others I've tried and I'm hearing impaired so I used the voice directions all the time. I just don't understand why the tech companies have to take a product that is fantastic and "improve" it. Guess they don't know the old stand by - If it isn't broke don't fix it.
Well, I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree on this. Like you, I've tested this as well and am just as able to get the sound out of the phone as you are not. I've got the iPhone connected via Bluetooth to the vehicle, and changing the switch, I can get the sound out of the car or the phone. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but you can provide feedback to Apple about your dislike of this change and ask for the change back by going to their feedback page, www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html I hope you get your wish.
Great find!! I'm not sure if that was intended, but I never would have thought of that. I'll remember that for anyone else talking about the problem. Glad you were able to get it working the way you wanted.
I've had a number of different Hyundai in the past, a 2012 Sonata Hybrid, two 2017 Elantras, 2 that did not have Bluetooth, and now a 2022 Tucson Hybrid. I found with my 2012 Hybrid, I had a separate control on the vehicle that changed where the sound came from for navigation. However, now it seems with the 2017 Elantra the sound will come from the car or the phone using the switch I displayed earlier in the thread. I'm not experiencing any problems getting it to do what I want, I was just helping others. I've also made the comment that it could be the car, but not everyone is agreeing with that.
Yes I have done this also but in my experience it also increases the volume of the music app in use which is Bluetooth connected to the car. This makes the music far too loud. The problem could be solved if the volume of the turn by turn directions were more similar to the volume of the music app. In my case usually Pandora. I know
Yes! This works! Finally a solution without having to turn off bluetooth. The only thing you cant do is use bluetooth for anything else besides Apple Maps when you are using the app. When Apple Maps isnt open bluetooth is restored to play through the car stereo. I wish they would just go back to old way and have the option in settings of playing Apple Maps through the phone without having to go to control center and pressing airplay to select iphone. Just glad it works somehow. Thanks for the instructions!
Jenna, I spoke with 3 Apple senior advisors and spent more than an hour with one troubleshooting this. The last advisor gathered files and sent this to engineering. None of the advisers know how to fix this. However Justin444 found the solution. I tried his recommendation and it works for me. An Apple senior advisor called me back to continue gathering information for engineering and when I showed her the solution she thanked me and said she will now use this on future calls. I don’t expect a fix from Apple anytime soon returning the audio selection to the previous position where it was in IOS 14 as this was a new design. I find their new design a setback and not an improvement.
Having the same issue here after the 15.1 update. Now I only get the tone sounds but no voice prompts. I have an older car without CarPlay and I used to hear the directions over the radio. Apple please help! This is so dangerous. I have to keep looking at my phone to see where to go instead of just hearing the directions.
Daggerian, Refer to my comment on the 5th page. Justin444 found a solution that works and I commented on it listing the steps. It works and I get the voice directions thru my iPhone just like it did in IOS 14.
I am having the same problem with my iphone ios 15. No audio directions on my phone. I have bluetooth on in my car for phone calls and everything has worked great until lately. I don't feel I should have to reset my phone and lose all the info that is on my phone. I downloaded google maps for now and it works fine If the audio directions ever start working again on the apple map, I will be glad to start using it again. I hope Apple will let me know
In answer to the second part of the question,
I have rebooted the phone, checked that Focus is not on for Driving and the volume control works with all the other apps
The only app that has no sound, is Maps. The phone is hands free, so not connected to any bluetooth source, when driving. headphones work when plugged in
Device has been restarted a few times.
