Safari 15 - keep sidebar bookmarks menu OPEN

Hi people!

Does anybody know a way to keep the bookmarks menu OPEN on Safari 15's sidebar, like it used to be? It's not the sidebar, only the bookmarks menu.

Now, everytime I activate the sidebar with the cursor I have to reopen the bookmarks menu again and again and again... It used to stay open, which helped navigating. Now it is ALWAYS closed when you open the sidebar.

A completely unecessary step that some "genius" added... How come someone thought this was "useful"???

Instead of adding steps on usability, they should be working on reducing steps. It seem they don't think anymore before doing things. A shame... Seem they never read Apple's UI Guidelines - if they still exist

Now working here with Safari 15.2 (15612.3.6.1.8, 15612) on (old) macOS Catalina 10.15.7, sort of.

What works is using the View menu or keyboard shortcut to open and close the bookmarks. Open with Ctrl+Cmd+1 and the last-opened bookmark is open in the outline hierarchy (yay!). Now close and re-open with the Tab Group button like we've been doing for years, and we're back to the two-entry sidebar with closed Bookmarks and Reading List.

So we'll all have to retrain our finger muscle memory to use Ctrl+Cmd+1to open and close the Bookmarks menu every time.

Thanks for finding this!

I agree with Mr. Azevedo's critique, above.

Take the total number of added steps caused by the new configuration each day, and assign a time value. Then assign a monetary value--perhaps the median salary for US office workers. Multiply the added time by the monetary value for one worker. Then multiply this by the number of people using Safari each day. Annualize. You will see that Apple has cost its user base thousands of dollars.

That is one of the major failings of US corporations. They fail to take into account the value of time, and the cost of lost opportunity. The decision to change the sidebar configuration seems trivial until you compute the impact on a per user/per day basis. You realize that Apple is throwing your time and money out the window. Why? Because they can.

don't like it...Now I have to remember 3 new simbols to open one tab (you are becomin windows now) Steve Jobs is crying wherever he is, because you are ruing his vision that people are visual creatures.

That's why Apple was better then others, because everything was visual and logical.

This is just idiotic what have you done now. (if you are looking to upgrade - upgrade would be that you can costumize sidebar, not that you have to make 2 extra steps and remember new rules)

The same with calculator, I don't know why did you remowe it from right sidebar.

ShopBox, aren't you being unnecessarily judgmental? People have all sorts of ways of abstracting knowledge from computers. (As Jobs knew). Have you considered that the majority of users actually might be happy with features that you dislike? Try to be happy that you have a clear path to your goal rather than complain about its relative length.

I myself don't want the Bookmarks open to my last item, I just want the sidebar always open and ready to use. YMMV, but it think that was the point of the OP.

Also, you might consider speaking for yourself only, not some mythical 'we' group. Your opinions are valid even if you're the only one holding them.
