Try force restarting your iPhone. If that does not help, then check with YouTube about support for their app and to see if it supports iOS 15. The YouTube app is not an Apple product.

yep.. in my case : deleted the YouTube app.. reinstall it again with the last version 16.44.5 with 237.6 MB.

What to do:

Clear Space:

Try clearing internal storage. If it is low, then lagging can occur. So, try clearing internal space though use of the following:

Clear the storages named "Other". Caches would be being used for remembrance of application use. So, clearing other may be the way to go about this, as it would be performs through use of a computer.

i deleted and installed again today 12.11.2021 and it worked.. apparently was a bug update from youtube

UPDATE:- Yes ios 15.2 fixes the lag on Youtube and Whatsapp statuses. GO AHEAD AND UPDATE. My iphone 8 has no lags now.

Yes, it was extremely unlikely to be a storage issue and the section C in his boilerplate is worthless anyway. Did you try the forced restart? Also, try deleting the YouTube app and installing it again.

I discovered something.

if you reinstall The YT app it will work smoothly until The first time you close it, then The lag came back.

Noticed that too, the best option is keep it on the background until Google team will bring the fix

Same thing, and it looks like it get fixed right after app to be reinstalled, but got back after the second time it's launched. It's been a month already, seems line Google is not going to hurry too much in order to get this fixed...

Just upgraded from iOS 14.8.1 to iOS 15 and as soon as i minimize the youtube video in the Youtube app in portrait mode it lags behind a second or so. If i reinstall the Youtube app it does work smoothly however there are errors in the window as it minimizes shows as two minimizing windows. It is something wrong in the animation.

If I close the app and reopens it and then try to minimize the video the lag comes back but the animation of the window shows in the correct way. Sometimes it doesn't even recognize the touch at all when trying to minimize.

Well just have to wait for an update to YouTube. But YouTube has always been sorta meh on iOS. Now when I had my pixel it was a flawless experience.
