iPad Mini (6th Generation) - Guided Access Bug?

I’ve set up guided access on my brand new iPad Mini (released yesterday), but when I want to get out of guided access, and I click on the power/ID button three times, the password box pops up but the on-screen password keyboard does not respond. If I tap on a number, it simply does not register. When I try to reboot, by holding the power and a volume button down for 15 seconds, it doesn’t work.


Right now my two alternatives are to remote erase the iPad mini or to wait for the power to run out.


What’s going on? Is this a bug or something I’m doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

We understand you're having trouble exiting Guided Access.


Typically, you should be able to enter the passcode. However, it does sound like the device may be frozen. Have you tried the steps for force restarting the iPad, as outlined in the article below?


If your iPad won't turn on or is frozen

Thanks for the response. Yes, I’ve tried to reboot as suggested in the linked article but it doesn’t work. I can press the specific buttons for a minute, forget about 15 seconds, and nothing happens.


I upgraded earlier today to iOS 15 and the problem persists.


I should correct you - the screen doesn’t freeze. Although the password box doesn’t respond to numbers being tapped, after about 10 seconds of inactivity, the box will go away and the application continues to work perfectly - no freeze. It’s just the escape from guided access that won’t work.
