Unable to play music through USB - iPhone 13 pro

I just recently purchased the iPhone 13 pro and ever since I have not been able to play music via the USB port to my car. I have tried it with multiple vehicles and it won’t allow me to play music from any music app I have on my phone. Bluetooth however does work but we have a vehicle that doesn’t have Bluetooth and now I’m wondering what to do with a phone I cant play music from while driving.

I do have the new update for IOS 15 but I had updated my previous phone and was still able to play music through that phone with IOS 15 so that makes me believe it is an issue with the new phone. I am using an apple charger to plug into my car as well. Any advice is appreciated!

I was having the same issue with my 13 Pro.

After many texts from apple support I got this messsage-

“””Some stereos might not recognize the device unless there's at least one song stored on the device. If Songs are listed as zero under Settings > General > About > Songs, try to download at least one song on the iPhone and then try again, let's see if this time it works !””

I stream all of my music, nothing downloaded. With that said,,

I went to iTunes, downloaded “Survival of the fittest” … Then canceled the free trial.

I plugged my phone into the car and it worked,, Spotify-Pandora,, all good.

Hope this makes everyone’s drive much much more enjoyable!

I have an iPhone 12 Pro and I listen to audio in my car via a USB cable. Very recently I've started getting a message in the car "unsupported version" and I can no longer listen to audio that way. I assume this coincided with a software update because this has worked fine with all previous iPhones and worked fine with this one for the past year. If I turn the key - but not motor - on I can play audio but as soon as I start the engine I get the error code and nothing I do can get past it.

My daughter is having a similar issue over Bluetooth - her car is newer so she's always played music wirelessly.

I went from an XR to an 11 and have the same problem. Have iOS 15.1 and can’t play music in my car through the USB. My son has my former XR and that however still plays through the USB in my car. What’s going on? This makes no sense. My EQ is off, still nothing. I’ve downloaded a song from Apple Music, still nothing. Do I need to buy a new car or what?

I went and got XM radio. I can’t stand radio commercials. This has been soooo frustrating. I’ve always used my USB in my car and played my Amazon music. But this new update screwed or all up. I spent hours on the phone with Amazon and Apple. Apple told me to be patient, they were working on it. Well, I wasn’t being very patient. I also read somewhere it’s the iOS 15.1 No way to uninstall it. But also saw where they said something about downloading something iOS beta? But reading more info on it, it does say it has a lot of bugs. So I didn’t. Trying to wait patiently for Apple to resolve this issue.

FWIW it seems to be solely Lightning to USB. I have 15.1 on my iPad Pro and I can use a USB-C to USB-C cable to my FIIO BTR-5 and get lossless audio, with the FIIO displaying the bit rate. I did not have the EQ turned on but Atmos is set to automatic, so that setting seems to have no bearing on the iPad and USB C.

However - if I use an LT to USB-C with my iPhone 13 Pro on IOS 15.1.1 it literally does not see the FIIO. It charges the FIIO if I have the FIIO set to charge when connected but will not send audio even if I turn OTG charging off on the FIIO. Instead it plays on the iPhone speaker as if no headphones are connected. This is a cable verified to work on the BTR-5 and previous IOS devices / IOS versions.

Apple - get a move on fixing this. You literally cannot play Hi-Res audio without a DAC and now you’ve broken the use of DAC’s on your flagship phone…
