Apple Watch pairing with new IPhone

If my child has an Apple Watch on cellular but has never owned an iPhone or any smart phone, how do I keep their watch phone number for their new iPhone? (Verizon is my carrier.)

Hello brooklyn_koni,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have a question about keeping cellular service associated with an Apple Watch linked to a new iPhone. We're happy to provide some information to assist.

If you used the Family Setup feature for the Apple Watch, you can view details for the phone number associated by navigating to Settings > Phone. The article here also has the information: Set up cellular on Apple Watch

Regarding the new iPhone, it and the Apple Watch must use the same carrier. To keep the same number you'll want to reach out to your carrier to see if this is possible. You can reach out to Verizon Support or use the contact information found in the article here: Wireless carrier support and features for iPhone in the United States and Canada

We hope the information helps!
