New 24" M1 iMac doesnt turn on without earth ground

We once had an issue where one leg of the incoming voltage was a lot lower than the other. It turned out to be a bad cable/connection from the house to the pole. The electrical company replaced it, and everything was fine after that.

One has to wonder if the M1 iMac is an exception, if all M1 Macs are the same, or if any recent Mac exhibits the same behavior.

The new iMac24 is only rated down to 100 V.

I do not know if the M1's power brick has ground fault protection or not?

But if you are using a cheater adapter, you need to make sure that the polarity of the wall outlet is correct.

(ie narrow blade is hot and wide blade is neutral)

Yes, and as I posted, it’s a real hazard for more than the Mac and its users. It means that anything plugged in to that outlet or any outlets on the same circuit (and probably anywhere in the structure) could give a serious shock. My daughter once rented a house with similar problems; when she called the building inspector they condemned the building, saying the problem was too widespread to be corrected without ripping out and replacing all of the wiring.

Yup' that would do it as well. Although that seems a little strange, unless the 2013 iMac was less sensitive to the lower voltage.
