Hi - I just updated to 11.6 and now it seems my Time Machine drive is playing up. It shows that there is data on there:
However, Time Machine sees nothing on it:
and neither does the finder:
Is there any reason for this? I've also been having problems with my USB ports, so hope it's nothing to do with that

It may not see the backup as connected to your Mac because of the upgrade. I've had that happen once years ago. I just wiped the drive in Disk Utility and started a new backup.
You can also try holding down option and clicking the time machine icon in the status bar. You'll get options to verify backup or browse other backup discs. That will often reconnect the backup too.

I can confirm this is the culprit. The External drive is renamed with a 1 after it
So now I have to figure out why all my external drives intermittently rename themselves. I've been told it could be liquid damage on my Macbook arg
Thanks for replying. I will go ahead and reformat. It is a bit alarming that the backups are not accessible
I have also noticed a separate issue that another external hard drive sometimes gets " 1" added to it, so HARDRIVE becomes HARDRIVE 1 - Could this be related?

That happens when disks have the same name. Eg untitled, untitled 2, etc. that’s why I rename drives.
that may affect the backup if time machine looks for “untitled” and your backup did has the number after it. Although I think time machine is smarter than simply linking to a name.
