iPhone 12 Pro Max-Issue with files app and attachments to any application

With the latest iPhone 12 pro max I can’t attach any document to any application, be it mail, outlook, messages, whatsapp or anything else. For one second it shows the iCloud Drive, then it starts blinking nad comes up with an error: "Something went wrong when displaying documents-Try again". Of course, not matter how many times you try, it's the same message. I can’t even browse to other files or other locations.

I have this issue again in the past and only a hard reset and restore from an icloud back up resolved the problem, but only for a few weeks. After a while, the problem comes back. Obviously, I cannot reset my phone every now and then and certainly this must be a very common bug, as it makes the iphone practically unusable for real work. The only way to get round this is to share the files from the files app, using the preferred application, but it clearly beat the purpose.

I have seen that people have experienced the same problem before but no answer was given. It's certainly both annoying and frustrating that this bug seems to have survived even in the latest update of ios15.

Can you please assist?

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately not an issue on how to attach, but instead a problem with the operating system itself. It appears to be a glitch in iOS that causes files app to crash when opened from within other applications, be it native or not.

I guess apple needs to seriously see into this and patch it in a following update.

Unfortunately the problem persists even after the latest updates. The only way to get round it is to reset the iPhone, but then the bug will come back after a few days.

I do not understand how something so major can go un-noticed by Apple, as it practically renders files app attaching process through any app useless.

Do we know at least whether this is identified as an iOS issue that is likely to be resolved with a future update?

Just earlier today I have noticed that my iPad (latest iPad Pro 11’’) is having exactly the same behavior…This throws the “mobility” and “the only computer you will ever need” notions for the iPad to the garbage…What is even more surprising is that you can attach files from the OneDrive app without a problem, which proves that this issue is entirely related to the iOS and the files app specifically.

Come on Apple, is this the best you can do with your “most advanced mobile” software? I am certainly not the only one facing this hurdle, am I?
