security update for catalina does not finish

I installed today’s (29/9/21) security update for the latest Catalina and now there is no progress in the bar - it stays stuck at about 10% for two hours now.

I have a fast Thunderbolt drive with the OS, worked flawlessly.

machine: iMac 2019 4K, Fusion drive

OS: Catalina, last one. Everything was up to date and working flawlessly.

Can I power off and restart; restart in safe mode; restart in another mode?

iMac 21.5″ 4K, 10.15

Called Apple Support: tip was, just force power-off, and restart normally.

That worked. Then clicked the ‘install update’ button again, the window was still there.

It worked flawlessly, after 10 minutes I had the normal screen again. Thanks AS.
