iPhone photos

I'm trying to clean up old photos on my iPhone, but for the last couple of years the phone has been creating a .MOV file whenever I took a photo. I'm connecting to the phone through my computer and deleting old photos, but it won't let me delete the .MOV files - it says I don't have permission to delete the files. How can I get rid of them? I don't have any trouble deleting the JPEGs.

Hey jahat49,

We see that you're unable to remove .MOV files from your Photos app, and we'd like to help!

It seems like that you have Live Photos option enabled. This means that when you take a photo, it will save and capture a live photo where you can view a few seconds of the moment before you snap a photo.

You can learn more about Live Photos here: Take and edit Live Photos

We suggest that you try turning off Live Photos and see if it helps. You can find the steps from the article under the section that says 'How to turn off Live Photos'.

Let us know how it goes!

Best regards.

Hey jahat49,

Thanks for getting back to us with the results. Let's restart your iPhone and try again: Restart your iPhone

If you still can't, see if you can restore the deleted photos from your 'Recently Deleted' album if they're available: Delete photos on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you continue to experience the same issue, we recommend that you get in touch with Apple Support team next: Contact Apple for support and service

We hope this helps!

Cheers!
