Original iPhone 12 mini cannot verify genuine Apple battery message on phone that I have never changed the battery in

iPhone 12 mini purchased new in November 2020 from Apple. Never repaired or serviced and has original battery. Suddenly getting this error message and cannot charge the device. Now I have to take my phone to an apple “genius” in a city hours away to get repaired?
