resisting an old iPad

I have an older iPad that i had disconnected from my iCloud and was letting my daycare kids do games and puzzles on it.. today it locked up and asked for a password (which has never had) so when I try to do a factory reset. I don't know how to because it is no longer linked to my iCloud (find my phone location)
