Stop Safari from invoking or opening apps

This question comes up a lot. It would be nice to have an off/on toggle option. But Apple‘s available option is not bad and it’s quick and simple. It’s called the “long press”. Simply press on the link that you want to open until the pop-up options displays and then tap on “open”. Doing this will open the link in Safari without invoking the app.

Since I updated to the 16.4.1 update, any of the non default apps will open the link in Safari then hit the 'Open in Messenger' (for example) pop up. I need to hit open before it continues. How can I disable the useless narrow column pop-up Safari browser that pops up when I click links in other apps? A very narrow Safari browser pops up when I click links in other apps. It is too narrow to be useful, and I cannot make it go away without shutting down the app in which I clicked a link. The user experience of this is awful. I should mention that you can also open in a new tab or continue to the app. The long press gives you all the options in an instant.
