Siri not working correctly in Mercedes glc carplay

iPhone 8 with iOS 14.8, Siri not “engaging” consistently in CarPlay in my 2018 Mercedes GLC. Whether trying to have Carplay read a text message, or when inputting navigations, etc. - Siri does not speak through the car’s speakers. By pressing the steering wheel’s Voice button or by saying “Hey Siri” does clearly engages Siri on my phone, and I can see the swirling Siri colors on my car’s video screen, but I don’t hear Siri’s voice! I am ultimately able to trigger the audio IF I turn the volume up or down while the Siri swirling colors appear, this somehow signals to the car to allow Siri to talk. But it requires you to take yours eyes off the road. I must fiddle with the volume knob when you see the Siri swirling colors quickly, but then invariably I miss half of what she’s saying, so have to try again taking my eyes offf the road multiple times. Defeats purpose of voice command. I can also get it to turn on Siri if I try 3 or 4 times, the car ultimately realizes it should allow Siri audio through. FYI music from my iPhone and turn-by-turn directions usually work fine. It’s just a Siri problem. I think it

has to be something to do with the Mercedes software not realizing that Siri is trying to speak.

Siri and CarPlay worked perfectly fine in my previous car, a 2018 Hyundai. Same phone and same iOS. So has to be a problem with the 2018 Mercedes GLC’s functionality with CarPlay.

I found another person with very similar problem at link below. But no answers:

Hello Port66,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with your connecting you iPhone to your 2018 Mercedes GLC.

1. Since you have a 2018, your vehicle supports CarPlay: Apple CarPlay - More than 600 models to choose from. - Apple Support

2. Please start by ensuring everything is set up properly as described this help article: Use CarPlay with your iPhone - Apple Support

3. If you still need help, please check this troubleshooting article here: If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support

4. There is also a step mentioning the need to check if the car stereo needs an update to work with the new iPhone model or iOS version, stating:

"Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information."

Thanks.
