Notification sounds not working iPhone 13

When I get a notification and the phone's screen is in sleep mode, I get no notification sounds for texts and app alerts.

I can wake the phone without unlocking it (I tap on the screen without it being able to read my face) and sounds work. I can wake the phone and unlock it and sounds work. But if the screen is not in wake mode, I get no sounds.

I tried restarting and force restart but neither has any effect. I tried turning Bluetooth off and disconnected from my earbuds and car. Then restarting but no luck. When I got the phone I used Quick Start to get data and settings from my iPhone 6 running iOS 12. My iPhone 6 handled notification sounds without this issue.

Thinking about resetting all settings or even resetting the data and settings, but I don't want to go through all that on a long shot at this point.

Greetings SWright76116,

We understand that on your iPhone there are no audible notifications when your device’s display is asleep.

Let’s check on some things before you go as far as resetting all settings. First, in Settings > Focus is any focus currently set or is Do Not Disturb enabled? Here’s more about the new Focus feature in iOS 15 - Use Focus on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch When you go to Settings > Notifications, do you see ‘Deliver Quietly’ listed for any of the apps? Are the notifications waking up your display, even though there is no sound?

Thanks.

SWright76116,

Thanks for confirming. You had mentioned wanting to reset all settings. That can be a pretty invasive step in that it reset may things like Wallpaper, Sounds, Display & Brightness, Background App Refresh, Date & Time, and more.

What we would recommend next is reaching out to Apple Support on this issue. You've done key isolating steps and narrowed the situation down. There may be more they can provide you or steps they can suggest to look further at the situation. Here's their link to get started - Contact Apple Support
