Touch Bar not working after Big Sur update

Hey,

There is something going on here with the Touch Bar and Big Sur. My Dad's TocuhBar broke after updated, after no prior issues. Seemed odd but hard to imaging software related. Now I updated my computer and my Touch Bar is also now not working.

As you can see below, my Touch Bar has been stuck on this for 3 days. Multiple restarts have done nothing. I will try resetting the SMC and PRAM, but I am not sure if that will do anything.

Seems like something Apple needs to be looking into. Anyone have any ideas?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

You do not say what exact Mac—

If it is an Intel Mac you can try both which are involved in Touchbar

Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

(get at least two-three rounds of the chimes when holding the NRAM Reset)

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. I have an intel MBP 2019. I tried the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM resets and there was no change.

Any other ideas? I will likely contact AppleCare.

Thanks!

If no software resolve from above—this typically indicates a hardware issue with the T2 Controller.

Hey,

I tried reseting the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM with no help. It seems hard to believe that this is a hardware issue when there was no issue prior to upgrade. I am one of the few people in the world who used the Touch Bar so I know 100% it was working prior to upgrade.

Other forums are popping up with similar complaints. There seems to be an issue with Big Sur on this front.

Apple please look into this ASAP!
