How do I get rid of all those tabs at the bottom of my screen in safari and in my email in iOS 15

IOS 15.7 Mail Creating tabs in Mail on my iPad with IOS 15.7 is easy, but I feel very stupid I can't remove those tabs. They disappear and reappear, but I don't want to see them anymore. In Safari it is no problem. But what's the trick in Mail?? (And yes I've been searching the internet!)

Tabs disappeared on iPad I was looking at an email and touched on the page too long and it opened in a tab on Safari and all the many others were gone. I found some in History, but how and why does this happen? Oh my gosh! I just posted this, went back to the tabs and they’re all there! I’m SO CONFUSED! Help!
