Hello Boosterseat1993,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, your AirPods die when used for calls, but other functions work as expected.
For this issue, we'd recommend trying out the following:
- If your left or right AirPod isn't working
- How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro
- How to clean your AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and EarPods
- Charge your AirPods and learn about battery life
- Pair them with another device to test if the issue persists there, as well.
If you continue to have issues after these steps and the same issue occurs with another device, then you'd want to bring them in for an inspection.
For AirPods service information, see: AirPods Service and Repair

Due to the current conditions around the world, some stores may have limited hours or appointment times. They also may require specific things to visit them (Such as, scheduling an appointment, wearing a mask, calling to check-in, etc.).
If this issue doesn't occur on other devices, try pairing them back to your device after resetting them. Once paired, connect the Charging Case to a charger, put the AirPods in the Charging Case, and keep them within range of your device for 1 hour. Then test it out again.
Let us know if this helps out, take care!
