My iPhone 13 Pro will not connect to WiFi

It shows it’s connected in settings, but doesn’t display the wifi symbol at the top of my screen, and when I try to open certain apps, it says I’m not connected to wifi. I’ve tried EVERYTHING on the troubleshooting list!

Help!

I had this exact problem - both on my Iphone 8 and my new Iphone 13.

It was one of the reasons I upgraded my phone - because I thought the 8 was messed up.

Looks like the VPN settings from my 8 were transferred to my IPHone 13.

Found that VPN's were enabled on my IPhone 13.

Went to Settings, General, VPN & Device Management

Then selected each VPN and deleted it.

That instantly allowed connection to my Wi-Fi - which hadn't worked for one week.

Just as reported by many others in this 10 page thread. VPN is more trouble than it is worth for most users. Something to think about→Don't use VPN services. · GitHub

There are two legitimate purposes for using VPN:

  • To allow access to a private network such as a school or business when you are not on site.
  • To allow access outside of a country with a repressive government that has restricted Internet access.

Any other use is risky, and can lead to problems like the one discussed in this thread. VPN disguises your location by making you appear to be somewhere else in the world. But you usually can’t control that “somewhere else”, and if it is in a location that an app isn’t approved for the app won’t work. Plus the fact that the provider of the VPN knows everything about you and your location, as well as what sites you access through the VPN. So you are totally dependent on the VPN provider’s honesty. As a start, if the VPN is free, DON’T USE IT. The provider has to make money somehow, and if you aren’t paying them then they are selling your private data to make money. But even those that charge can’t necessarily be trusted. For example, a few years ago Avast was caught selling user browsing data. They claim they have stopped doing so.

You don’t really need VPN when using public Wi-Fi, because all communications between your iPhone and the servers it accesses are end-to-end encrypted.

With iOS 15.2 and later Apple now has iCloud+ Private Relay, which is like a super VPN, except that it doesn't spy on you→About iCloud Private Relay - Apple Support

We just got my mom the iphon3 13 Pro, which arrived today. When completing the new setup, it asked us to download ios 15.1. Once I did that the wifi completely went out. No icon and no wifi connection.

I have tried the following to fix it:

Hard rest, pressing volume up release, volume down release and holding the side button until the apple logo appears.
Turned off private address
Under wifi settings -> forget this network and tried to log in to the network
Turn off and on airplane mode. This is the only time I saw the wifi icon appear, but it instantly disappears in 1-2 seconds of it showing.
I've tried a regular reset by sliding the turn of iphone.
I checked no VPN was turned on

My observation:

I believe with the symptoms and behavior I am having that IOS 15.1 has a bug related to network connectivity using wifi.

Note: During the process of setting up the phone, it was on the latest ios 14 version, it connected to the wifi with no problem to make the transfer. However, once we upgraded to ios 15.1 we saw the problem.

Questions for Support and Engineers:

Is there a way to downgrade to the latest version of ios 14?

Is there a bug report submitted to have this fixed?

Can you share where we can check the status of this issue?

If there is an update to fix this what is the timeline to get it out?

I had the same issue with my 13 pro. I had successfully used SurfShark in the past on this phone but now when I try to toggle VPN to OFF it instantaneously reverts to on. Deleted SS app and connected immediately to WiFi. Reinstalled SS app and everything seems ok, I have left the “umbrella” of my WiFi and returned a few times, reconnects were all successful.

hi, i have same issues with my brand new Iphone 13. i was able to connect to the wi-fi but the symbol for it wouldn't appear in the place that it suppose to appear at. i try all of the ways that i could try to get the wi-fi to fully work for me and just today i was able to fully get the wi-fi to work with my new phone by deleting the VPN so hopefully that will work for other people

I had the exact same problem, including my VPN switch flickering back and forth. I had a VPN app installed that wasn't logged on or connected (it was copied from my old phone and I hadn't set it up yet). I removed the app, and my phone immediately connected to wi-fi. I reinstalled the app, logged into it, set it up, and connected it, and everything is working fine now, including both my wi-fi and my VPN.

  • Can you turn Wi-Fi on in the Settings app?

Yes, it says it connects but if I try to open anything it will say I have no internet connection

  • Do you have a VPN app and/or VPN profile on your phone? If you do, delete them and restart your phone.

I did, I deleted everything, even the standard VPN settings on the phone

  • Next, go to Settings/General/Transfer or Reset Phone/Reset/Reset Network Settings - you won’t lose any data, but it will erase your Wi-Fi passwords.

I did this too, no luck. I think I need a new phone, don’t want to get the 13 again though this has been a ridiculous hassle!

Thank you for your suggestions! 😊

There are 2 things that need to be done to solve the problem.

1: Try to connect to other wifi, if the problem stays it confirms there is a problem with your phone.

In that case, visit your nearest service center. You can locate it here.

2:Make sure you are not connected to a VPN, it might be the root problem.

3: If you are able to use the internet on other wifi then definitely there is a problem in the router. you need to change the device filter settings or someone might have blocked your device for whatever reason. You can connect to the router to change the settings using router IPs. Usually, it is 192.168.1.1/ 192.168.1.254/ 10.0.0.1. I have added the tutorial link to connect. The login process is pretty much the same for all IP'S.
