It shows it’s connected in settings, but doesn’t display the wifi symbol at the top of my screen, and when I try to open certain apps, it says I’m not connected to wifi. I’ve tried EVERYTHING on the troubleshooting list!

I had this exact problem - both on my Iphone 8 and my new Iphone 13.
It was one of the reasons I upgraded my phone - because I thought the 8 was messed up.
Looks like the VPN settings from my 8 were transferred to my IPHone 13.
Found that VPN's were enabled on my IPhone 13.
Went to Settings, General, VPN & Device Management
Then selected each VPN and deleted it.
That instantly allowed connection to my Wi-Fi - which hadn't worked for one week.
Did you delete the VPN app on your phone, as suggested several times in this thread?
I just downloaded the 15.2 and my wifi connected instantly!!! Yeeaaahhhh!!!!

VPN was the problem.
The problem is VPN. You don’t need it, and it causes more problems than it solves. Delete it completely.
Turn off Configure Proxy if it’s on or auto.
I had the same issue when setting up an iPhone 13 and deleted VPN then Wi-Fi connected, I haven’t tried to reconnect to VPN, still downloading from old iPhone
Yep. Also try switching on Airplane Mode for a second, then turning off if you have trouble. That works for quirky stuff. My 13 gets confused going outside if its on my network switching to my carriers internet or a public internet.
When you transfer content to a new phone from another phone it transfers everything, including app data (Apps are redownloaded from the app store). But the VPN settings for the previous phone are customized for that phone, and generally won’t be compatible with the new phone.
But the real fact is that you don’t need VPN for security on an iPhone; all it does is make you less secure (because your VPN provider knows everywhere you go, and can you really trust them, not to mention that they can be hacked), slows down your communications to about 1/4 of the maximum bandwidth, and can introduce communications problems (as you discovered).
Now that Apple has Private Relay there is absolutely no need for VPN; Private Relay is sort of a super VPN that uses 2 links rather than one, so it is closer to TOR in its privacy features. It costs 99¢ a month and is included with 50G iCloud+ (and up), which is less than you are paying for VPN. And is compatible across devices and upgrades.
This worked for my husband’s phone to delete the VPN . He had not tried to see if he can add VPN back again yet. Our phones are connected and I have not had this issue with WiFi on my phone. Thanks for the tip!
restart your network settings, if airplane mode doesnt work
Rebooting the phone cleared my same issue.
Try switching on and off airplane mode. Frustrating for sure.
Did you restart your router?
Has it ever worked?
Does it work with other networks, and only has a problem with your home network?
Have you deleted any VPN apps and profiles on the phone?
Restart your phone and it will be fine.
