Internet recovery doesn’t load

I am preparing my MacBook Pro (around 2016) for trade in and wiped the hard drive. It now won’t start up. When I load Internet Recovery, it asks for a network, appears to connect, and then goes no further. I have tried several times, using more than one network, and it never starts the download.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have already tried all of those options; the volume level has definitely changed (sounds louder on start up) but it still does not progress past the network choice and there is no apparent clickable option to start the download.

Was hoping to avoid taking it to a store, since trade in is online only and I don’t intend to use the Mac anymore myself. I’ve booked the trade-in already, which said it would need a viable start up - having followed Apple’s own instructions for trade in prep, that no longer happens. I suppose I’ll just send it via trade in and if I get no value for it, at least it’s off my hands.

I don’t think you understand my situation.

  1. I went to my local Apple store yesterday to trade in the Mac and was told this can only be done online.
  2. I organised the trade in online.
  3. I followed the instructions on the Apple website to prepare my device for trade in, which including wiping the hard drive.
  4. The Mac now no longer starts up, and Internet Recovery does not download.
  5. (New) After a while it gives an error message of “2002f” which I understand to mean it won’t connect to my network to start the download. I am currently trying to change my DNS settings as advised by other Internet forums, but am having trouble logging into my router.
