What does "notifications silenced" mean in Messages?

Ditto for my wife and I. I have however discovered that I can tell Siri to turn the "do not disturb" function off and it does so. This seems to be the only way to actually turn off focus on my end. Hope this helps.

Many people have talked about checking all devices. I have gone over my iphone, ipad and macbook air multiple times without success fixing this problem. Then looked at my watch for the time and saw the moon at top of it. Somehow I had turned on the DND on Apple watch and it silenced everything. So dont forget checking your Watch also.

I'm not sure why you're responding to me. I do not have a problem with Focus or DND.

I figured out after months of this issue that if you toggle the focus button (click it, and click it again). This has worked for everyone in my family.

totally annoying, but the toggle has worked every time. Hope that helps.

TNANK YOU! This WORKED after trying EVERYTHING else. You helped me discover that since my wife's thread was pinned, I could not see that I had notifications from her silenced. Once I unpinned the conversation I could see that I needed to toggle her status. You are a lifesaver.

That’s not the problem. The problem isn’t that we see their status, the problem seems to be that something is “wrong” on their or your end, or possibly both ends. Essentially, you are just hiding the problem. And preventing others from knowing if you are actually on DND or not.

This!!! The simplest suggestion (toggle the focus button) yet it was the one that worked 😂 I tried every other suggestion for my nieces iPad, even though DND was turned off, and when it was on I was able to send her messages and she was notified, it still kept showing me her notifications were silenced. And now that annoying message is finally gone 🙌🏻

I turn it on everyday from 10pm-6am because I don’t want nobody to bother me and my calls won’t come through. It’s easy to turn off in the settings. I love this option for the last past months. Need help I can help you

It’s a setting on my phone around that contact and I don’t know how to get rid of it. On the subject of focus, I can’t stand it. I wish apple would go back to the “do not disturb” method of silencing the phones during certain hours. Focus is overly complex for what it’s usually used for, not intuitive, not user friendly.

The notice that is the subject of this thread didn't exist before Focus was introduced.

It sounds as if you have a different problem. But, it's not clear to me what you mean by "a setting on my phone around that contact". What setting?

You can do exactly that with Focus. Go to Settings>Focus>Do Not Disturb. Do not put any contacts or apps in "Allow notifications from". Do not do anything with "Customize Screens". Go to "Set A Schedule", tap "Add Schedule" and set up your hours during which you do not want to be contacted. Do not select anything for "Smart Activation".

Delete all of the other Focus profiles except for DND. Focus will now work exactly the way it did before.

All focus settings have been cleared, and both default settings are turned off. I’ve disabled focus in messaging and restarted my phone, yet the “notifications silenced” message persists. It appears to be a significant glitch.

I am Seeing the same message in texting my daughter and confirmed her focus setting is off.

It means they most likely have the DND settings set up on their phones and you are most likely not one of their favorites . So when the designated DND times are on, your messages will be silenced.

Same problems. We have both tried everything and it's just hers that says I've silenced her. I've called Apple and they don't know. It's frustrating because she has to send the message twice

Same here. My friends are saying I have notifications silenced but I definitely do not. I've triple-checked and none are active. This only began after I installed iOS 15.1.
