What does "notifications silenced" mean in Messages?

Yes it does stand for do not disturb and mine is completely shut off I have no DND turned on and still it shows that I have messages silenced. This occurred after I installed the 15.1 update. I’m beginning to think it’s because they want everyone to but tge newest IPhone, I have a fairly new phone the IPhone 11. This is ridiculous

My issue now is a little different. I also have DND and focus OFF. I do not use it nor like it nor need it.

When my family send me text it goes thru normally unless they text me from the MAC then it shows that I have my messages silenced. Only on the MAC.

Be sure to check both outgoing msg contact as well as incoming. Both of our phones were on share. However by him turning off his share stopped me from getting notice. Went thru phone & found several of my contacts where my share was on, however i had never set up that way.

After reading so many pages and doing everything over and over I skipped to the last few pages and found yours skrubs.

So far after doing your steps in order it seems to be working. I know for sure I wont be updating my software for awhile because I think this happened after I did my update.

Not true. It appears for someone who is not even on iOS 15 and does not have "focus." The account has notifications on, DND is off and this message thread notifications are not off. There is no reason for it to say "has notifications silenced when the account does not have anything silenced.

I was able to resolve this by going into the other person's settings and even though DND was off (they did not have the OS with "Focus") I turned DND "on" and immediately the notification to me went away. I then turned DND back off and the notification to me did not come back on. Weird but solved for me. Thanks all.

I’ve dealt with others telling me my notifications are silenced when they are indeed not. I restarted my phone, turned the notifications on and off, and turned do not disturb on and off in hopes it wouldn’t show others my “notifications are silenced”. I went back to settings and went to the focus tab and turned it off. Hopefully that works out for you guys!

This was occurring on my wife’s phone. I tried multiple things to fix, to no avail.

The last thing I just did seems to work (for now). Focus, Do Not Disturb, allowed the app “Messages”. Of course, the silenced thing went away. I then removed Messages as allowed under DND. So far, no alert about silenced messages. 🤞

Guess the thread is getting long on the same subject but the Focus ON and Off and DND On then Off DOES NOT WORK.

This is a bug in the software that has caused this issue for a good bit of people and it is not fixed by reboots and off and ons.

Eventually Apple will get to it, they are never fourth coming on issues like this. They will just fix it and pretend it did not happen so patience is all.

I have diasabled all the focus toggles off and on so many times including the focus under privacy and you are right it should not come back on BUT IT DOES. Not all iPhones are doing this but I have 2 stubborn ones that do this no matter how many times you toggle it and thats what some people don't get issue is not resolved thru the UI, it is a software issue that only Apple can fix.

One of the iPhones ironically only shows "notifications silenced" when texting macs or iPads and not other iPhones.

answers and they said DND do not know what that means please advise is she at receiving any of my videos or am I being blocked like you can block a person and not see anything please respond thank you

Thank you! After trying everything that was suggested in the community, what finally worked was Toggling do not disturb on and off. I also toggled on and off, the Share across devices button. I can’t thank you enough!

i too had this issue, spent hours and hours on the phone with six different apple support people whom cannot fix this problem on my phone.

except they had me disable literally everything to do with Di Not Disturb

Now my watch is about useless and i don't get any notifications

Apple has ruined what used to be a good user friendly phone by Integrating the Focus App with everything

it was simple before. if you wanted to focus you moved the little button on the side of the phone and it silenced your phone

now instead you need a degree in phone technology and hours of extra time to waste learning to set up focus scenarios. Dumb.
