What does "notifications silenced" mean in Messages?

Figured out the issue….

settings > focus > click on each focus to see what the scheduled time is. My wife’s phone was scheduled on “do not disturb” from 9:00 am - 7:00 pm and it was annoying us that her “notifications were silenced”. Simple fix was change am to pm so it said 9:00 pm - 7:00 am.

That's not the issue. You had Notification on a schedule so it was behaving as it should.

The problem is my notification is not on a scheduled here and everything focus is either off or deleted yet text are still showing "... has notifications silenced."

I just had this happen between me and a sister, and I’m glad I came here before I said anything to her, because my initial reaction was to assume she had been offended or upset with something I had said. This setting could definitely cause drama and rifts in relationships where there shouldn’t be. Definitely a bad move on Apple’s part! Fix it.

I've been seeing this issue intermittently for months.

I'm somewhat of an iphone/Mac power user, and I can't get these to stop. My wife and I frequently see this message for each other, even when neither of us have DND (do not disturb) turned on.

Me too same thing ever since I installed the 15.1 update. I have focus completely turned off and have deleted the focus options that it allows to be deleted. My focus is completely off and it still shows that I have my messages silenced.

Yes it does stand for do not disturb and mine is completely shut off I have no DND turned on and still it shows that I have messages silenced. This occurred after I installed the 15.1 update. I’m beginning to think it’s because they want everyone to but tge newest IPhone, I have a fairly new phone the IPhone 11. This is ridiculous

My issue now is a little different. I also have DND and focus OFF. I do not use it nor like it nor need it.

When my family send me text it goes thru normally unless they text me from the MAC then it shows that I have my messages silenced. Only on the MAC.

Silenced notification solved. After contacting apple support techs, doing everything online, contacting carrier...no one had answer. Then i found issue myself. Go to text, hit on person it is happening to/with. Hit tiny arrow under name. If shared focus is on, turn it off. I have main focus off, so dont know why this was even on w/contact or the select few this was happening to, and i never set it this way. By turning off from contact, problem solved. Figured out myself, no help from any “support”. Hope this helps others.

Be sure to check both outgoing msg contact as well as incoming. Both of our phones were on share. However by him turning off his share stopped me from getting notice. Went thru phone & found several of my contacts where my share was on, however i had never set up that way.

After reading so many pages and doing everything over and over I skipped to the last few pages and found yours skrubs.

So far after doing your steps in order it seems to be working. I know for sure I wont be updating my software for awhile because I think this happened after I did my update.

I had this problem as well. I had a “notifications are silenced” from one individual. I checked their settings/notifications and focus (DND) and they were all set to off. So I had them delete their personal focus (even though it was off) and then re-add it. This fixed the error. I no longer see “xxx’s notifications are silenced” in my iMessage.

I was experiencing this same issue.

I turned on my sharing across devices and turned it back off and the problem was resolved.

If that doesn’t work, make sure your focus is entirely set up and try again.

If it’s still happening it’s probably another Apple device that has focus sharing on

I found a solution for the notifications silenced after trying all the others.

Go to the conversation with the person who sees the silenced notification in messages.

Toggle the Share Focus Status ‘off to on’

Not true. It appears for someone who is not even on iOS 15 and does not have "focus." The account has notifications on, DND is off and this message thread notifications are not off. There is no reason for it to say "has notifications silenced when the account does not have anything silenced.

I was able to resolve this by going into the other person's settings and even though DND was off (they did not have the OS with "Focus") I turned DND "on" and immediately the notification to me went away. I then turned DND back off and the notification to me did not come back on. Weird but solved for me. Thanks all.
