Unable to use mic on google meet on safari

For the past 2 weeks or so since I updated safari on my M1 MacBook Air, I have been unable to use my mic on safari(Version 15.0 (16612.1.29.41.4, 16612)) on Google meet. I am constantly forced to use Chrome since I have no issues with my mic on Chrome. However this comes with the cost of incredibly reducing the battery life. I tend to roam around my University a lot and its tough to find free charging ports around every time my battery starts running low. Most of my University lectures are conducted on Google meet due to COVID, and hence I have no choice but to use it. Is there anything that can be done about this issue?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.6

Hello ChShZSH,

Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about not being able to use your mic in Safari for Google Meet. We're happy to help by looking into this more!

The following support article provides some troubleshooting steps to try for this behavior:

Control access to your microphone on Mac

If you try these steps and still have issues you can try uninstalling the app and then reinstall to see if that helps. If the issue continues, reach out directly to Google to see if they are aware of the issue and if they have and suggestions.

How to contact an app developer

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.
