Why isn't Pages 11.1 and Numbers 11.1 compatible now with Catalina, which now can't be upgraded on my perfectly useable 7 year old iMac?

My laptop is only three years old but I've downgraded to Catalina since the latest version of Big Sur runs quite a bit hotter on Intel chip and I want to preserve my battery. Now I can't even download Pages from the App Store.
EDIT: I've found a way to download Pages 11.1 from App Store now.

As newer versions of Pages are released, the requirements for Pages document collaboration also change. See Apple's article: About collaboration for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote (updated 2021-09-28). Look at the Learn more section of that linked content too, for Collaborate in real-time on documents stored in Box.
As you cannot edit and save to iCloud now, have you exhausted your current storage allotment there?
Seven years is an eon in computer time. Technology marches on. Pages and Numbers are now on version 11.2. If you want to have the best experience with Pages and Numbers then you'll need to update. They need the capabilities of more modern Macs.

Pages and Numbers v11.1 are compatible with Catalina, but the recently released Pages and Numbers v11.2 are not because they have features specific to Big Sur and the forthcoming Monterey. The age of your Mac will dictate what operating system you can upgrade too, and therein, the application software you can also run on it.
Thanks for your reply SG, yes I totally get that and technology certainly must move on. But it seems a bit unfair, when I have a number of reliable and hard-working Macs in my design business, all bought at the same time, all working perfectly well, and having no issues for all this time. Now it looks like Apple has decided I must replace them. Why? They work fine! Ideally, I want to step back to a previous version of Pages and Numbers that would be compatible with Catalina. Do you know if this is this possible?

Thank you VikingOSX for your reply. There is actually a specific issue, this is the message I get on every Pages and Numbers document stored and shared with my colleagues in the iCloud: To collaborate on this document, get the latest version of Pages from the App Store or use Pages on iCloud.com. As I can't edit and save to the cloud anymore, it seems I can't continue without installing the latest version 11.2, which can't be done on this OS. This is across all my Macs in my business. It was all working fine until 2 weeks ago. Do you have any suggestions on how to resolve this, other than by replacing all my Macs?
