homepod makes loud pop and disconnects from AirPlay after upgrading to iOS 15

I upgraded my HomePod to iOS 15 and since then have had an issue with it making a loud popping noise (loud enough to wake my dog) and then disconnect from my iPad. I am using AirPlay and connect to both HomePod and HomePod mini. All devices are running current iOS 15 versions. There is no issue with the mini. I am able to reconnect the HomePod after about 3 minutes.

Anyone else having this issue.

HomePod, 15

I have the exact same issue and hopefully the info below will help for clarification of a potential hardware issue your HomePod.

With the popping sound and then the HomePod disconnecting and resetting itself after 2-3 minutes it is best to check on the iPhone, the HomePod been set up with, for a possible hardware issue.

Using your iPhone you can do this by:

1.Going into the Home App, selecting the HomePod that makes the popping sound by pressing your finger onto its icon and it will open the settings for this HomePod.

2.Scroll to the bottom and on the right there will be a grey cog icon (the HomePod's settings) and tap on this.

3.Another menu will pop up with all the various settings for the HomePod but you need to scroll down to Analytics and Improvements and tap on this menu.

4.There will be another menu that reads Analytics Data and you need to tap on this. This menu will then show lines of text of what the HomePod does when running in the background. You need to look at a line that starts panic-full (you should see the date(s) of when the popping occurs and there will be a time recorded which will match up to when the popping sound and disconnect happens.

My HomePod has just done 2 separate popping noises and then reconnected to my iPhone. In my Analytics Data is shows the following:

panic-full-2021-11-18-121115

panic-full-2021-11-18-121434

Those figures that read 121115 or 121434 means time recorded of 12:11pm (and 15 seconds) or 12:14pm (and 34 seconds) which is approximately 3 minutes between each popping noise, disconnect and then reconnection.

No amount of resetting/unpairing with the HomeApp will change this. Sadly, it is a hardware issue and the only way forward is to replace the HomePod if it's still in warranty/covered under consumer law that applies to the country it's been bought from or pay for an out of warranty replacement as long as the HomePod is in stock. If it doubt always seek advice at an Apple Store or call/chat with Apple Support. They are there to help...

Ok can I ask you a question.

Are you an apple employee ? Because You are in almost all threads that I end up in giving not advice at all just referring to apples lacklustre specification.

Don't get me wrong they make great hardware but their "Geniuses" are most of the time wrong and so are you.

This not an attack I just wonder why answer if you do not know the correct one ?

Ps there are obviously very smart geniuses but they know shockingly little about the inner workings of the machines ...

I think jdo is a community moderator not an apple employee. I used to be on the bar. It’s a tough gig. Remember there are three levels of Genius Bar techs. Specialist, expert, genius. So geniuses are typically in the lab working on Macs, etc. specialists and experts would be on the bar.

Apple adheres to a strict set of metrics. Get em out quickly. 😂

I notice sometimes when I play Dolby Atmos music from Apple Music it is more likely to stop playing after a while (using AirPlay over my iPhone) and then I can’t control it anymore and my phone still shows it as playing although I can’t hear anything (volume is set correctly). Eventually through multiple disconnecting and reconnecting it works again. Don’t know if it’s related to the popping problem. Happens so randomly to me it’s hard to figure out a connection between events.

I haven’t had any issues with atmos or lossless yet - most of the time if they crash and reset it’s when they’re idle

On another note, when I mentioned about the volume in control centre and home app as showing on max on one pair which weren’t on tv default - yesterday I played something expecting it to play v loud and guess what - it played at a previous volume which was much lower and then corrected itself in c centre and h app

I feel your pain. I canceled Apple Music because there is no reason to pay for a service that won't work with the vendors product. I believe that this issue is deeper than just the HomePod. Since upgrading my iPhone 12 Pro to 15.2, I have had to do a hard reset a couple of times because the wireless charging stopped connecting. I thought it was my Qi charger, but after a hard reset, it started working again.

Apps stopped syncing with my MacBook and my Apple Watch. I have to say that iOS 15 is possibly the buggiest release that Apple has thrust upon us.

Might be time to reevaluate my go to vendor.

This might be interesting if you haven’t seen it yet, or lost all hope yet…

Noticed a different log appended shortly after the pop (requested or auto retrieved by Apple perhaps)

Seems to me they are looking into this as they said they would, hopefully very seriously and with urgency

Note the date / time of panic log and the other (new) log

Maybe they’re taking massive samples now

What do you guys reckon - have you seen these before?

I don’t think I have and I’ve been almost studying them for nearly 2 months

siri here in germany had more issues then the english version at them moment, there was a bigger calendar bug and weird timer issues as well.

i read in some german tech news that apple fixed this, it was a few days ago and after the update 15.2, i though how is this possible? but maybe apple can provide patches without and bigger update

the „ota_patch.txt“ is possible a fix for these problems.

No more „panic ful“-logs neither loud pops and restarts. BUT I still notice those more silent pops or noises (don‘t know how to describe). They always appear 3-5 minutes after playing something. So the HomePod is quiet, after I stopped the music, movie or whatever and then this noise appears, just for one sec.

I think it first appeared after the OS 15.0 update.

Anyone else having those noises?
