Microsoft PC running the latest Windows 10 version. The airplay icon disappears within a second of opening ITunes. it has been running normally for the past year. other than the Apple and Windows update no system changes or network changes this year.

I've had that problem a few times. The solution was to restart the 'Bonjour' service in Windows Task Manager.
Close iTunes, then CTRL+ALT+DEL and open Task Manager.
Go the Services tab at the top and scroll down to Bonjour Service. Right click it and click Restart. After a few seconds, the Status should say Running. You can then open iTunes again and the Airplay button should be back.
